It was so much quieter. Only when you turn up the power to 'lift the carpet' strength (and it does) did it sound like my old bone shaker.
The 2200 watt motor means that there is enough sucking power for the life of the bag. My old machine lost suction even with a new bag after 10 minutes.
Although more expensive, the larger capacity 4.5l bags take at least twice as long to fill, so that they work out about the same, pricewise, as my old vac bags. You can order 2 packs direct from Miele by phone for £15.75 incl p&p. Each pack contains 5 bags and a basic Super Air Clean filter.
Bag removal is easy and clean as the bag opening automatically closes when you pull it out.
The stainless steel telescopic tube means that I no longer have to risk back problems when vacuuming. It is rather heavy though, and the edge of it is quite sharp, so it's best to attach the crevice tool when doing the edges of skirting boards.
And hooray for the Active Air Clean charcoal filter. I no longer nearly keel over with the smell of stale animal smells every time I turn the vacuum on.
The main reason I bought this machine was for the 2 turbo brushes, one full-size and one mini, to remove pet hairs. And they certainly do the job. They remove all but the most stubborn hairs, which I then scrape off with the crevice nozzle attached.
Here we come to the only real downside to this machine. In my experience the turbo brushes do seem to take a little of the top layer of the carpet (pure wool) off with each use, only a little, but a little, nonetheless. In my case, I am willing to pay this price in exchange for the removal of pesky pet hairs.
You also have to be a bit careful with the suction hose, which whilst it is lovely and flexible, also feels a bit fragile. I wouldn't want to yank the machine about with it, like I did with my old vacuum.
Then again, this vacuum moves about really easily and smoothly on its 3 castor wheels, so it doesn't need to be yanked about.
Be aware, that every so often you will have to remove hair and other debris that get wrapped around the rollers of the turbo brushes. It's a 5 minute job that I do before each big vacuuming session.
A small point, but one you would have thought Miele would have addressed, is that when you pull the electrical cable out to its full length, there is nothing to tell you that you're reaching the end of the cable. A yellow warning line on the cable itself to let you know that the cable was fully extended would have been helpful.
In summary, allowing for slight carpet shaving and other niggles, I really like this quiet and efficient, clean smelling, large capacity, manoeuvrable machine, and whilst vacuuming is never going to be a fun activity, the Miele makes it a more satisfying one.
I bought my Miele from John Lewis for £179 plus £6.95 delivery which comes with a 2 year guarantee.
Advantages: Unbreakable, don't worry about the dog chewing the hose or the kids jumping on it! Disadvantages: You can only buy the bags from Miele or John Lewis
...abused by husbands and pets. Miele Cat & Dog MAX has survived it all. The body is made of 'crash helmet' material and the tube is indestructible! If you don't believe me, get your kids to ride on it and pull it along or your pet to chew it.
It is so silent on the low setting my husband can watch TV as I get on with dusting. The high setting will pick up any pet hair, my husband even found the upholsery turbo brush great for his fur-covered suit!

Advantages: Powerful..Easyand light to use . Worth every penny for the easy housework ! Disadvantages: The Miele hoover bags i think are a little on the expensive side ..
I have owned my Mielecat & dog hoover now for 3 weeks . I have run my own house now for 30 years and have owned a few hoovers in that time and have cursed and sworn and each and every one of them ! One was way to heavy and bulky to use on the stairs ( upright Hoover ), another could'nt even suck the fluff off the carpet ( vax hoover ) . I have even owned a Dyson , which i paid good money for and it worked brilliantly for the first few months , then it just seemed to lessen in power and eventually it was used for cleaning the car only. I then was reduced to sweeping the carpets with a broom !
Then my daughter bought a Mielecat and dog hoover because she has 5 dogs and cat . I watched with an open mouth and this little light weight red hoover ran across her living room carpet and left a completely clean stripe behind it !
I had to ...

Advantages: Variable suction power, lots of accessories for different floor types, sturdy and easy to manouver Disadvantages: Have to buy bags
I did all my research and new exactly what I was looking for in a vacuum cleaner , experience of having 2 previous ones that I had to chuck out. :(
After reading a few reviews I decided on a Hoover TS2046 as it came with a Turbo Brush. I thought that it was one of the few inexpensive ones that came with a turbo brush besides the Dyson as its way overpriced.
With this in mind I went to John Lewis to buy my Hoover. To cut a long story short and a good demo by the salesman. For only £20 more I bought the Miele as I knew I would be buying a far superior make and it offers more value for money.
The Mielecat and dog came with 2 years
(parts and labour) waranty from John Lewis (Their price was £152). It has got all the usual attachements and comes with 2 turbo brushes. A full size one and a mini one. This mini one is great for small ...
Over the last year my hoover has gradually been losing its suction, and I was rather annoyed to discover a few weeks ago that it had almost completely stopped sucking. That would explain why I had to go over and over my carpet time and time again before it would look anywhere near clean.
I am one of these people that never like to throw things away so I just struggled on with it. But now it has stopped sucking completely I guess I was left with little choice but to throw it away and buy a new one (it was about 5 years old anyway).
So with a tear in my eye I took my old hoover down to the dump and set out to buy a new one..
After spending an hour or so hunting around the shops I came across the MieleCat-Dog TT5000. I guess half of the reason I fell in love with it is the design. It has a very modern design and I just liked the look ...
