To make the choice easier, Miele helpfully named this edition of their cylinder vacuum cleaner Cat & Dog. So potential customers were able to identify it as such. It worked for us. I chose a cylinder cleaner as they’re smaller and quieter, and easier to get up and down the stairs and round furniture. We don’t actually have any pet hair to deal with, only human hair of the long variety, but we have a couple of Turkish rugs which will cling to hairs and dust which can only be removed by brushing of some sort – a suction-only vacuum cleaner would not have worked here. Rugs on the other hand are tricky because they have tasselled fringes etc that can be a disaster in the making with the rotating brushes of an upright.
The cleaner itself is light and compact, considerably smaller than the old upright we used to have. It has a compact body, on wheels which allow you to manoeuvre round the furniture no problem, and it is also small enough to sit on the stairs, if you prop it upright. It has a handy mechanism where you can ‘park’ the nozzle end so that it doesn’t fall over. Good for storage or vacuuming breaks. The cable is really long, long enough to plug it in at the bottom of the stairs, work your way up (one storey) and do the immediate area around the stairs too. The cable retracts into the body of the device, avoiding a mess of trailing cable. The two main buttons (power and cable retract) are big enough to operate with your foot (gently).
It has a maximum suction power of 1600 Watt, but it also has a dial to lower this for more delicate surfaces. 1600 means that it will easily lift your carpet off the floor whilst vacuuming. Which is great in terms of suction and cleaning action, only in our case it disturbed the decaying underlay so that we now have an interesting crunchy effect underfoot in the kitchen –grin-. This will teach me to follow the instructions next time! There are six power settings, from hard floor to curtains – if I interpreted the symbols correctly. This is a useful option to have, you can vacuum more delicate things without having to fear that they will disappear into the dust bag or be damaged. And yes – I have removed the cobwebs from the curtains in the spare room in this way.
It has a special filtering system, which sends the air through a charcoal filter (Active Air Clean-Filter) before being expelled, this is supposed help allergy sufferers and helps general air quality, and keeps at bay those stale odours usually associate with vacuum cleaners. The dust bags have a great system of locking lid which means that the dust bag will be sealed off when you come to changing it. The dust bags have a useable capacity of 4l, and an indicator with show you when the bag needs replacing. There is also an overheat-indicator.
It comes with two main brushes, a conventional one for hard / carpeted floors, and a “turbobrush”. This latter accessory is what made me buy this machine over other models, it’s a really sturdy design and has great cleaning power. As it’s air powered, it’s also less likely to destroy rugs if you accidentally catch a corner – while an electrically powered brush just keeps pulling, this one will stop at resistance. Three other nozzles are packed ‘on board’, there is the ususal crevice nozzle, upholstery brush and round brush with long bristles.
All is all it’s a useful device, ours is about one year old now and still shows no sign of age whatsoever, despite having to deal with long hairs and heavy duty dirt. It’s not the cheapest cylinder vacuum but it’s certainly not the most expensive either and does a great job. Changing the dust bag is a considerably cleaner process than emptying a non-bag vacuum. Dyson eat your heart out.
Advantages: Does what it claims to do Disadvantages: The attachments need cleaning regularly and the bags get full quickly
...saw the advert for the Miele Cat and Dog hoover over a year ago and realised that it was just what we needed. Of course I didn't believe their claims, few vacuum cleaners have managed to pick up dog hairs in my experience. I thought it must be a gimmick and decided to come to Ciao to read some customer reviews. All reviews seemed to be in favour. I thought the cleaner was quite expensive but I had some money saved and thought it was the least I could ... ...a good supply of these. Miele offer monthly delivery of these I think which I wish I'd opted in for. There is a red indicator bar on the front of the cylinder that tells you when the bags are full.
Now another little story (I'll try to keep it brief)
Just over a year after getting my Vacuum it began to lose suction. I was gutted, as Miele had never sent confirmation of receiving my warranty. I grumbled and moaned at the name of Miele but usually ...

...telling me there was a Miele Cat and Dog Plus fully paid for over the phone awaiting collection at our local House of Fraser. She'd heard they were really good.
Our first night was spent examining the bits and bobs, and documentation, what goes where etc, and decided to wait until the morning for the first test. When it came to the test we were astonished. Miele also offer an extended warranty, which I took out just after purchase. I'm normally very wary of these, but for £17 a year for 5 years covers you for all parts and labour (*excluding misuse). You also get two boxes of dustbags each year (10 dustbags and 2 Super Clean Air filters) delivered free of charge to you. The normal cost of these are £6.50 a box, although to be fair I've only just changed the first dustbag, ...

...I have had my Miele Cat and Dog for around five years now and it is still going strong. It is without a doubt the best vacuum cleaner I have ever seen (you can shove your Dysons) and I would heartily recommend purchasing this item if you are looking for a long-lasting, hard-working little sucker!

The Miele cost me around £190, which was one of the most expensive cleaners you could buy back then. With the assault of the Dyson range on the market, prices of cylindrical vacuum cleaners have fallen considerably, but I have not seen one as good this yet.
So go on – get one and get sucking! ...

Advantages: it works! sturdy, unbreakable Disadvantages: bags are quite expensive
We bought this after reading other reviews on Ciao. We have 7 cats, 3 of which are Persian, and also 3 lovebirds who leak feathers like there's no tomorrow. We had previously exhausted 2 Dysons and an Electrolux . I wasn't too keen to go back to a 'bag' cleaner, but I have no doubts about recommending this one.
This hoover works! It deals with all manner of fluff and dirt. The provided on board tools are standard, but great for all jobs. You can ... ...no loss of efficiency.
The Turbo head is a boon on carpets, but not so good on flat floors.
The 6 settings mean you can use it for dusting picture rails and coving, sucking fur of f your pets favourite armchair, and the curtains that lie touching it, as well as give the carpets a really good go at the same time. If anything you have to watch your setting because sometimes it is just too powerful and you can't move it against the carpet pile.

Advantages: Unbreakable, don't worry about the dog chewing the hose or the kids jumping on it! Disadvantages: You can only buy the bags from Miele or John Lewis
After having so many vacuum cleaners abused by husbands and pets. MieleCat & Dog MAX has survived it all. The body is made of 'crash helmet' material and the tube is indestructible! If you don't believe me, get your kids to ride on it and pull it along or your pet to chew it.
It is so silent on the low setting my husband can watch TV as I get on with dusting. The high setting will pick up any pet hair, my husband even found the upholsery turbo brush great for his fur-covered suit!
Best of all it's so silent your cats will stay asleep as you clean their pet beds.
Great if you're an asthme sufferer too! I've had many teary eyed-runny nose moments with vacuum cleaners in the past! ...

Over the last year my hoover has gradually been losing its suction, and I was rather annoyed to discover a few weeks ago that it had almost completely stopped sucking. That would explain why I had to go over and over my carpet time and time again before it would look anywhere near clean.
I am one of these people that never like to throw things away so I just struggled on with it. But now it has stopped sucking completely I guess I was left with little choice but to throw it away and buy a new one (it was about 5 years old anyway).
So with a tear in my eye I took my old hoover down to the dump and set out to buy a new one..
After spending an hour or so hunting around the shops I came across the MieleCat-Dog TT5000. I guess half of the reason I fell in love with it is the design. It has a very modern design and I just liked the look ...
Advantages: SUPERB CLEANING, CANT FAULT IT Disadvantages: A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO STORE
I absolutley love my mielecat & dog. Vacuuming is now a pleasure, dare I say fun (sad arent I!) . After several years of putting up with cr*p machines, (one of which was a rather expensive one) ,which blew up, blocked up and messed up I did some careful research and read several reviews on the internet and came across the Mielecat and dog. I have one hairy Labrador X and 5 kids and my vacuums just couldnt cope with us, I was getting through one once a year. I can honestly say this is one of the best buys I have ever made, it is certainly the best vacuum I have ever bought. It is superbly powerful and does my carpets and wood floor a treat! It has never blocked up or let me down and sucks up dog hairs and muck brilliantly. I cant fault its performance, I only have a problem with storing it but I always have with cylinder models. ...
