I have been using my Miele Cat n Dog for around 2 years now - this is way longer than any other vacuum (including Dyson) has ever lasted me before without having to have majorly expensive repairs!
Miele seem to build for life when they make a product and this little machine certainly lives up to that statement - they must be sure of their product lasting longer than its rivals too as they offer a much longer parts and labour guarantee :~)
The vacuum itself is fairly easy to carry around (even with a bad back) and extremely manouvreable whilst in use.
It has an adjustable telescopic metal 'wand' attached to the hose and mine came with 2 sizes of turbo head, one for the floor and one for the stairs, a regular floor head and three on board tools for various other cleaning duties. Other heads are available from Miele.
I have mainly wooden floors with Persian and woollen rugs and two very hairy, very moulty dogs who have the run of the house - the Miele removes all traces of their presence within minutes whereas my Dyson would take an hour or so just to do the downstairs!
It has six different power settings ranging from 900 for delicate rugs (and cushion covers!!!!) to 1800 for everything else! I rarely even use a duster these days as I find my Miele dusting brush more efficient.
To be totally honest, I wish I'd bought one of these little gems years ago. You get no bad smells from the unit (unlike with some vacuums), you can vacuum ANYTHING with it - I do the velvet curtains in the lounge and they come up wonderfully. It is great for vac'ing the car too as the range of tools makes it so easy to use.
Another plus for this is that the bags seal themselves as you remove them, so you're not viewing all your yukky dust and dirt!
Bags are fairly easy to obtain and if you haven't got a local stockist then there is a number on the Miele website that you can call and they will post them to you. Mine arrived within 2 days and they were cheaper than the local stockist.
All in all, you can stuff your Dysons and Henrys where the sun don't shine - give me a Miele any day!!!!
