I found a good deal on the Miele G646 and bought it.
Setting up the machine was easy, one water inlet hose connected to the cold water mains, outlet hose into the waste drain ... ...to set the water hardness so the softner would use the correct amount of salt, one call to the water authority for my area and the correct setting was programed in.
The machine washes very efficiently cleaning almost anything you put in. I've found that heavily soiled plates are cleaner better if rinsed quickly. Loading and unloading the machine is quite easy plates stack in the bottom tray, cups, bowls and small plates in the top ... more
A couple of years ago we went on Holiday to Germany and stayed in a self catering appartment on a farm. One of the pieces of equipment in the kitchen was a dishwasher, after 2 weeks using a dishwasher I thought how have we managed before!
On return from our holiday one of the first things I did was look at buying a dishwasher.

Setting up the machine was easy, one water inlet hose connected to the cold water mains, outlet hose into the waste drain and the plug into the wall socket. Next I had to set the water hardness so the softner would use the correct amount of salt, one call to the water authority for my area and the correct setting was programed in.

The machine has twice stopped working because the drain blocked. The machine is designed to stop and warn of a blocked drain, removal of a paper jam jar label that had got caught in the filter system and a reset and the machine started washing again.
A trully excellent machine compared to the one we used in the appartment in Germany (and that was good!) Highly recommended.
Advantages: Legendary quality, Economical, near silent, Low lifetime cost Disadvantages: Cutlery tray has little room for utensils, top basket allows utensils to jam arms sometimes
I bought this after a much more expensive Bosch model failed. From day one we could wash just about anything on the economy program including pans- it just copes effortlessly. Add to this the fact that I believe it could function as a nuclear bunker for little people- it gets hammered 2 to 3 times a day and the only 'problems' are so minor and 'fixed' by just getting the model up. These problems are that the arms sometimes stick on a rogue utensil ... ...door is left open mid cycle- a buzzer or lamp would be handy. None of the button labels have faded and nothing has ever gone wrong. The only fault is that the filter has a plastic hinge (a bendy bit of plastic) which did break when it was dropped but it still remains firm when locked in. Don't bother looking any further. ...
