When we moved, we had saved money to buy good appliances. We decided that we were going to treat ourselves for a change, and not make do.

You always seem to look more closely when you get things home and over the next few weeks we admired our fridge. It had so much space inside. We did have a bit of trouble fitting it though. This was our fault because the fridge was 600mm wide and the gap wasn't. A slight adjustment to the kitchen cupboards along one wall didn't take long (for my dad and husband!).
Before the 2 year warranty was up, a strange smell was coming from the fridge. Nothing was mentioned in the problem solving section of our manual. When the engineer came out he showed us that something had dripped into the condensation hole at the inside back of the fridge and the motor was making it evaporate and smell. If this happens to you just pour a little Milton fluid down the hole regularly, that's what he recommended to me.
No problem I thought. Shortly after that though, my problems started. The temperature of the fridge seemed fine but I started to get a real issue with frost build up at the back. The thickness of ice became so great (about 5+ inches) that my space for storage was severely limited. I defrosted the fridge several times but the ice was always back within a fortnight.
Next, the temperature was hard to maintain. In hot weather I could just about get the fridge to stay at 5 degrees by having it on the maximum setting. When it was cold I had to have it on the lowest setting to stop the contents freezing.
When an engineer looked at the fridge he said that there was a problem with the gas at the back, which was extremely odd for Miele. He advised for ONLY Miele to refill the gas and said that it would be so pricey, we'd be better getting a new fridge. Well, at that point in time we didn't really have the money for a new fridge, so struggled on.

I thought it was just my luck to get a dud Miele so we started looking for a new fridge early this year when my daughter was born. Having to store baby milk in there meant I needed to be certain that the temperature was correct.
To cut a long story short, we weren't put off, and opted for another Miele fridge. It was, in fact, the same in design as this one. The only difference was the model name and it's width which was about 554mm.
Again we went to John Lewis to order and the fridge came. The new appliance buzz you get wasn't quite the same because the internal fridge looked exactly the same as the old one. Nevermind. So much space, even with the decreased width because no ice.
Anyway........our problems started again. The temperature wouldn't maintain. I had to have the maximum setting to keep it to 5 or 6 degrees (and the weather wasn't that hot). I was too nervous to keep the baby milk in there.
Before the week was up I'd contacted John Lewis and we exchanged the fridge for an AEG which has so far been brilliant.
A difficult purchase as there isn't a great deal at 550mm width in this price range.
I complained to Miele and explained that I had been extremely disappointed with them twice. Miele acknowledged that the problems I was experiencing seemed odd and offered to send an engineer. They stressed that if nothing faulty could be found, that I would have to pay for the call out.
Given the lack of confidence I had for the fridge by this point, I declined and decided to exchange it. I explained that I wouldn't be purchasing Miele again. They said they thought that was a shame.
