I have to admit I am very hard on vacuum cleaners, they never seem to last very long in our house! When the motor of my last vacuum went up in smoke after only 11 months I knew my next model would have to be extremely durable and so I was instantly attracted by miele's 20 year guarantee on the motors of their machines. Easily manoeuvrable around furniture thanks to front castor
Selection of useful tools stored neatly inside machine
Telescopic handle very useful if you are tall or different people use the machine
Different power levels easily adjusted
Cleaning performance is good on different surfaces: carpet, laminate and tiles (brush level can be adjusted to suit)
Copes well with pet hair
Hose easily dismantled when becomes blocked by children's small toys
Air filters, which are easily repaceable, make the machine suitable for use in homes with allergy sufferers
Good length of flex which rewinds neatly at the touch of a button
And those which are not so good....
Bags. Easy to change with hardly any mess and readily available to buy at major electrical shops or online, but they are quite pricey (last time I bought some they cost about £10 for 5 bags and replacement filters). There are own brand bags that will fit the machine but miele's own are more durable.
Hose length - not quite long enough to reach to the top of my stairs.
...I decided to concentrate on Miele or a Dyson. I was able to test drive a Dyson DC08 and a Miele S5210 before purchasing.
I found the carpet cleaning performance of the Miele to be far superior and it felt as if it had much better all-round pickup. This was true for dust, hair and general carpet fluff! I would say that Hardwood/tile cleaning for both was level pegging.
Reliability was also a factor in my decision. Miele have an excellent brand reputation ... ...the quality of S5210 the Miele I was very impressed. The body feels well built and solid. The tubing is stainless steel and features a nice locking/unlocking mechanism. This makes the disconnection of the pipes and different vacuum heads easy.
Cost is obviously an important purchasing factor. The Miele is a bagged vacuum requiring the purchase of additional bags. This is in someway offset by a lower purchase cost than a Dyson for example but obviously ...

Quick review of Miele S 5210
I just bought a Miele S 5210 and it's been excellent. While I have carpeted floor, the vacuum head that comes with it works just fine. The suction on this machine is superb. All the attachments are stowed in the vacuum itself unlike Dysons' so no loosing them easily. The machine itself is also handsome looking and built with good plastics. I've used both Dyson's and Miele and I think the Miele is better. The problem with bagless vacuum is that it's a mess to clear out. Also, the Miele will likely last 20 years as they are designed to do. Well worth the price (yet cheaper than Dysons.) ...

Advantages: Easy to store, stylish, compact and powerful Disadvantages: none I have seen yet
...I went and bought the Miele S5210, I subscribe to the Which magazine and it had mentioned the Miele S5210 (recent publication) had consistantly come out as the best over all performer.
Being as our upright vacume had died recently I saw no reason why I should doubt this and bought one today. All I can say is that it is miles better than the upright I had before, all the attachments pack away in the vacume which means they will be found when needed ... ...Myself and the wife are both 6ft tall but the hose is long enough that we don't need to break our backs bending over and the vacume is light enough to pull around without any effort. The 2200 Watt motor makes sure that anything you push it at gets vacumed which is good and the vacume bag repalcements were cheaper enough , somewhere around £8.99 for five bags.
You can see what you get below, if like me you just want a vacume that works, is going ...

Advantages: Great power with 6 different settings. Handy size. Easy to use. Design. Disadvantages: Not the cheapest out there but great value for your money
I've had the Miele S5210 for about a year. It's not like I buy new vacuum cleaners every month so I wasn't sure what to expect from this model. I didn't want to end up with something that didn't have enough power or that was too loud. It turns out I made the right choice when I purchased this little guy. The power is excellent and you have 6 different settings to choose from. I never use it on full strength as that just seems to be too much! It also ... ...you're waiting for a phone call etc.
The tools that come with it are pretty standard stuff (one for curtains, one soft brush, one for those narrow spaces) and they are all located inside the machine. It's quick and easy to replace the bags and the size of this machine makes it easy to store away too. I actually don't mind the looks of it either as it is quite discreet (I have the black one).
All in all I definitely recommend it. ...

Quick review of Miele S 5210
Advantages
Powerful , light , quiet , quality , cheap
Disadvantages
None so far.
I recently purchased this cleaner , upon arrival i was eager to test it out . First impression out of the box was yes i like the look of this , small and a nice black glossy finish. When i turned the cleaner on and wacked the power on full , WOW ! AMAZING , It was so powerful , i could hardly move the head over the carpet , i turned the power down half way and the suction was still great .
Amazingly for such a beast it,s so quiet , you could hoover at night without disturbing your kids in bed , let alone your neighbours .
After recently switching fron a Dyson DC08 , i can honestly say that the Mile wipes the floor with it in every way .
Buy one it wont disappoint you! ...
