Advantages Advantages Great for pet hair, quiet, powerful

Disadvantages Disadvantages None that I've found

After going through 2 vacuums in 3 years, I decided to try to find a longer-lasting replacement . This model and Miele's 'cat & dog' both had the requirements I needed - that the vacuum would pick up cat and dog hair well and hopefully, with Miele's good reputation, have durability. A consumer magazine recommended both of these but as the 571 was the cheaper of the two and got the highest test score, I decided to opt for it and have not been disappointed. I ordered online after shopping around for the best price and it was delivered within 3 days. It's a cylinder and has a smart black case ... more

Advantages Advantages quiet, lightweight , very good suction ,smart ,long power cable with auto rewind

Disadvantages Disadvantages not great for long hair on short pile carpet, bags fill up quick, replacement bags have to be purchased

I made my decision solely on the recommendations from Which Magazine. They reckon that the design of up-rights is terrible at the moment and unless you can afford a Dyson then don't bother and buy a cylinder instead, as the overall performance and value for money is much better. Their top buy was the Miele 571 and it was on offer at the time for less than £100, so I was well pleased. My initial thoughts were all very good. I thought it was smart and compact. It stores away nice and neatly. The tools are all hidden under the top cover. And, oh, it was just soooo quiet when switched on. I ... more

Advantages Advantages Light, easy to move about, excellent cleaning, value for money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dust bag indicator is not brilliant

I have owned this vacuum cleaner for over a year now and am very pleased with its performance. I have found it excellent for carpet and hard floors and so easy to use. It also works well on upholstery and curtains. There is a variable power control so the maximum power of 1700 watts need only be used for really deep cleaning of carpets. The lowest setting is 300 watts and there is also a control on the handle should you wish to have less suction - for say curtains. I don't know how good it is with pet hairs as I don't have a pet, but it picks up thread well It has 4 tools including the ... more

Advantages Advantages Incredible suction, good attachments, easy to store

Disadvantages Disadvantages If I had to pick something - getting the bags

This is the best vacuum cleaner I've ever tried and it picks up an amazing amount of dust and dirt with its exceptionally strong suction. It has a long cord, is smart to look at, has a variety of brushes and attachments to get the best cleaning possible and is compact enough to get into the smallest spaces and in all the corners. It is also good for curtains, sofas and fabrics. It is very effective on both laminate floors and carpet and does not get blocked up even if something fairly big is sucked up. It uses bags which you can't get in the average supermarket, however there are plenty of on ... more

Advantages Advantages Lightweight and easy to use

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive bags

I bought the Miele S571 as it received a rave review in "which" magazine. It is small and lightweight which makes it easy to manouvre and easy to store away. It picks up better than other machines I have used and is very powerful when turned to the highest setting of 1800. It is well designed and seems pretty durable. The usual accesories (crevice nozzle, dusting brush and upholstery nozzle) are neatly stored inside the machine and the telescopic tube can be adjusted to suit your height. I have had mine for around 18 months with no problems. The only slight niggle is that the cable rewind ... more
