I already have a Miele washing machine and can vouch for the quality engineering in that. I therefore decided to replace my decrepid DC05 with a Miele. Miele have recently revamped their range with a higher power motor (up to 2200W). Being a man I'm all for extra horsepower! The new models are slowly starting to appear on the shop floor (mine was from John Lewis).
The Miele range seems quite confusing in terms of specs until you ... ...of every part that sets Miele apart from the competition.
Taking it for a test run and the turbohead really does suck - in a good sense of the word. My Dyson adheres to the carpet, but the Miele really sucks deep. The difference is like chalk and cheese.

I originally bought into the Dyson story, though have never been greatly impressed by my DC05. The build quality appears lacking with the hose connectors being rather fragile imho, and cleaning power not being too great.

The Miele range seems quite confusing in terms of specs until you realise it is all based on a few things. 1) Power 2) Colour of unit 3) air filter (Hepa, S-class etc) 4) number of accessories included. Some models allow you to upgrade the air filter up to HEPA from a lower grade and you can buy extra accessories - so find a colour and power you like.
I decided on the HEPA 500 Solution as I wanted the HEPA filter and extra accessory heads that come with it. These should cover all the floors in my house.
Opening the box yields the vacuum with all the hoses separately packed. Good instructions too. I was particularly impressed with the finish of the telescopic hose. It seems to be of much better quality than my Dyson and the connectors also appear to be better quality. This may seem trivial, but it is the attention to detail of every part that sets Miele apart from the competition.

As a test I hoovered the carpet with the Dyson, then with the Miele. The Miele dustbag contained quite a large amount of debris. Guess the Dyson really hasn't stood the test of time despite changing filters as recommended. The second thing I noticed is that the Miele on full power is fairly quiet, yet the Dyson is really noisy. Ask for a demo and you will hear how quiet the Miele is.
To cap it all Miele also offer a 2 year extended warranty for free if you register, though i can't see why they don't just offer it as standard.
Overall the Miele, priced at £200, is not cheap to buy, but should be a long-term performer. I think my DC05 cost over £200 a few years back yet has proven to be poor long-term value.
...so I went for this Miele hoover:
The suction is excellent, with a very quiet motor.
The accessories are well assorted
The telescopic tube is great and even tall enough for a 6'3" person to operate
the appliance without bending down.
It even looks "tekkie", if you go for looks.
There seems to be quite a big "blow-out" (blast of air coming out of the back). And that is where the clean air filter comes in: I sniffed the output air, and it smelled ...

Advantages: UNBELIEVABLE SUCTION , EASY TO MOVE, QUIET. Disadvantages: NONE
What can i say. Absolutely amazing! After many months of deliberating i finally took the plunge and bought the Meile s5000.
We recently moved to a 3 storey house which is carpeted on all floors except the ground floor which is tiled. We have a dog, which as you can imagine creates quite a mess sometimes but nothing can stand in the way of the Meile S5000 Our last vacuum cleaner (vax performance pets) was absolutely pathetic .
It was cumbersome ... ...all the dogs hairs or mess which was left in its wake.
When i first tried the Meile i could not believe how strong the suction was , it nearly lifted the carpet!!
But with the different settings it was easy to adjust the suction accordingly.
It is extremely quiet and well built !!!
All i can say is buy one . It is well worth the money. You wont be disappointed ...
