Little John Hi-Corner Litter Pan

The Mini hi - corner little John litter pan was the first hamster toilet i had got as i wanted something that was cheap and no one that i knew had a hamster to give me advice so i bought the cheapest one which did not look to bad but when i put the litter into the toilet and into the cage it did not work. In this review i will be talking about Performance, Effectiveness and value for money.

Performance

The performance of this hamster toilet is not very good as the hamster will not even go in it as it does not release it is a toilet because it not enclosed and when i put soiled bedding in there, the hamster does not go in there and i know that it is not just my hamster, as other friends have recently had problems with this toilet so i know that the toilet is not very good. Another bad point about the toilet is that it quite small and a fully grown adult syrian hamster might find it to small and wont use it because it is uncomfortable. The toilet is very shallow so you cannot put much litter in them so you would need to clean them a lot if your hamster uses it regularly and you wound need to replace the litter quite a few times in one week when in a normal toilet it would be once or twice a week. Despite this, the shape of the toilet is very good as it can easily fit into the corner that your hamster usually urinates in without taking up to much space in the cage but because it is not enclosed most hamsters tip the litter out of the cage and make a bigger mess of the cage. Overall, I give the performance of this hamster toilet a 3/10.

Effectiveness

The main aspect of many hamster toilets are to keep your hamster cage fresh and to make it easier when you have to clean your hamster cage and remove soiled bedding so i will judge the toilet on that criteria. So the first criteria is keeping the cage fresh and remove some smells from the cage. For me this toilet has not done this because my hamster will not go into it and also for other people that there hamsters have gone in it, the depth is not good so it can smell pretty bad after a couple of days because you cannot put much litter in there. The second criteria is making it easier to clean your hamster cage, The toilet it's self is easy to clean as your can just empty the contents of it and put it into a bucket of hot water and pet disinfectant. The toilet does not make the cage easier to clean as most hamsters will not use it and urinate where they like. Because of this i think that it definitely does not make the cage easier to clean and in fact i think it makes it harder. Also it does not make it easier to remove soiled bedding as it is not just in one place because the hamster does not use the toilet. Overall, i give this hamster toilet a 2/10 on Effectiveness.

Value For money

The hamster toilet is quite cheap at about £1.89 and that is what made me get it over more expensive but more effective brands. Despite the hamster toilet being very cheap, there is not point buying something which does not do what it is meant to do. Although, some things may be cheap, you need to look around and see which will be more effective, so i give the value for money on this product a 4/10.

Summary

When buying a hamster toilet you should consider effectiveness more over price but you need to also consider the price of the litter you need to put in it. When looking at effectiveness the best things that it should have are a good shape, it should be deep, it should be enclosed and big enough for an adult hamster. Overall, i would not recommend this product because the reasons in this review.
