Advantages: Plenty. Residual values are also truely astonishing! Disadvantages: The rear doors - they don't open very wide and it's hard to manage getting very young children and the elderly in and out
My wife and I have had our fair share of cars over the past 5 years or so - about 12 in total - and each one was very different to its predecessor. For example, we went from a Ford Escort to a Peugeot 206; a BMW Z3 to a VW Golf; from a LandRover Discovery to Porsche 911; and from a BMW 330d Sport to a Fiant Punto Mia (1.2). Most recent ly we changed from a BMW X3 to a BMW 116i Sport. If asked to choose which of all the cars we have owned I would recommend the most, I would say that depended to whom the recommendation was being made; however, if like us you have a young family and an active lifestyle, although you might imagine the versatility of a 4x4 such as the Discovery would be a good bet to get my vote, I would honestly have to say that, pound for pound, the 1series has been the best buy by far.

Advantages: Compact Disadvantages: Only really ideal for 3 passengers and the drivers seat can be a bit on the uncomfortable side

When the 1series came out, I fell in love with it and finally convinced myself to buy a second hand one. Put it this way, I don't think that I'll ever drive anything other than a BMW. Despite it being 5 years old I still get people telling me what a lovely car it is - and it is truly a joy to drive. It's compact, fast, classy, prestigious, liable and economical on fuel. Once you've driven the 116i, you'd be tempted to move up to the sports range or even better. My target is one day to own the 6 series which is also a beautiful car. ...

Advantages: Looks great, lovely to drive, excellent build quality Disadvantages: Small rear windscreen, limited rear legroom, don't like the rear view mirror at night.
I ended up choosing the 120d M sport after testing most of the 1-series range, including the 118 and 118d SE. For me the step up in price was more than covered by the increased comfort and performance. Before you've even got in the car, the exhaust and body kit make the car look that little bit more aggresive and I like the subtle M sport badges on the door sills, steering wheel and gear stick.
The racing seats are fantastically comfortable to sit in, even on long journeys and I find it a real pleasure to drive. The gearbox is extremely smooth and fuel economy is amazing. My one comes with the stop-start technology that bmw are now introducing- if you put the gearbox in neutral at a junction etc the car engine will switch off, and then on again as soon you put your foot down on the clutch. this not only lowers carbon emissions but also ...
