We had an urgent need for a new sofa as ours was one my parents gave us, and it had started to wear really badly in places and was scratched to death by my cats, and just not that comfy to sit on anymore. There was no support anywhere.

I knew I wanted a leather sofa as I feel overall they are harder wearing and last better, and in terms of keeping them clean in a household with young children and a cat, this was my preference.

I checked out sofas online, and a lot took my fancy, but this one from CSL stood out to me a lot, and I knew that it was the one I wanted. I did go to the shop as well to confirm my choice by sitting on several sofas in the store, and this came out tops.

The settee itself is a corner sofa. We have room for a 2 seater attached to a corner piece, and then a 1 seater section. You can also get the minnesota range as 2 one seater pieces linked with a corner piece, or even 2 two seater sections if you have enough space. This is a pretty large sofa, so I would recommend measuring and checking before you get it that you are happy with where you will put it. We initially had concerns about how well we would be able to get in the living room as there is not a huge gap between the door and the sofa, but it worked out ok.

This is a real leather sofa, which comes in a range of 15 colours. The sofa on the website and on display in the shop was white and absolutely gorgeous, but I knew that I would be forever washing it to have any hope of keeping it clean, let alone pristine.

You can also select from one of 32 premium colours, and this would cost £100 extra to the standard cost for the option we have.

From our extensive sofa lounging that day, we found that a lot of sofas have a bit of a design flaw. The depth of the seat was such that for me to sit with the front of the seat touching the back of my knee and my feet touching the floor, then my bottom did not actually go to the back of the seat and it was not comfortable to sit as I could not rest on the back without slouching. I guess you can pad that gap with scatter cushions, but I think it should be comfy in its own right. Probably not a problem also if you sit with your feet up, but when you have guests, most are not likely to do that if they have just popped round for a quick visit.

I was highly excited to order the sofa along with the matching chair. I was left waiting a long time of 13 weeks from order to delivery, and this really dragged.

When the sofa was in, something I did notice very quickly is that the soft leather does have a bit of a static cling to it. It attracted the polystyrene which had been scraped off the packaging, and I find that it gets really dusty. This is most apparent on the back, behind the cushion where there is a ledge, and on the chair there is a ledge runs round each side at the bottom of the arm. Basically, the areas that don't get bums sat on them to disperse it. It was recommended I wash it with a damp cloth once a week and I find that it definitely needs it, and it is hard to get it to stay looking pristine.

It is a really soft leather which is so comfortable to sit on and smells gorgeous. One downside to this though is if you sit on it wearing something which has prominent parts, such as a button on a pocket or a jean pocket, you do get the imprint left. It smoothes out, but it is something I have never noticed on other leather sofas we have owned or our friends and family have owned. I have even seen full hand a footprints on it from the kids, not from being sticky or having shoes on, just from being a bit hot and maybe sweaty. Again it wipes off, but you have to make sure you do keep on top of it.

My kids are not supposed to climb about on the sofa, but inevitably they do. I find that the cushions are quick to lose the firm shape at the top, and again, it was recommended that you plump the cushions a bit once per week to help it to keep its shape.

Overall, I am still quite happy with this purchase. I do find it incredibly comfy to sit on and we have some good quality family time while sat upon it as we can all cosy up really nicely on it. It does concern me a bit though how much time I do need to spend wiping it to keep it dust and mark free. I haven't yet done a 6 monthly treatment with a leather care kit, and this might help with a bit of the dust collection in a similar way to applying conditioner to your hair to reduce static.

It is a big and expensive sofa at £1500, but we are definitely enjoying owning it. I would say it is a fairly classic style that is not really fashionable as such, but will not look dated too quickly either.
