It has 5 different settings, auto focus which will follow your eye to see what you are looking at then focus on that object. Sound bizzare? ... ...eye thing does actually work, extremely well!
I have taken this camera out in all weathers, rain, wind, snow and hail and it has still survived, no scratches, no bumps and still in the same perfect condition as when I first brought it.

It has 5 different settings, auto focus which will follow your eye to see what you are looking at then focus on that object. Sound bizzare? well it is one little funky camera and the eye thing does actually work, extremely well!

You can buy numourous extras such as lense's, filter's, bags, etc. I would however recommend a convertor rather than a seperate lense mainly because of the space saving in your camera bag.
If you buy a lense to go with this camera, I would recommend an AF lense because it works better with the camera and synchronises with the body and modes.
All in all it is cheap, smart, classy, a gadgeteers dream and a tough little baby which will last a lifetime.

The Minolta Dynax plus lens comes in at just under £200 new - the price bracket of the 'serious amateur' (if that's not a contradiction in itself). However, I was lucky enough to pick mine up for less than £100, courtesy of a well known auction site (so it certainly pays to shop around).
The first thing that strikes you about this camera is that it looks the business. Rather than being all silver and chrome looking, this is more reminiscent of the ... ...ago - it looks like a serious piece of kit. But unlike the camera my dad used to own, this little baby is a fraction of the weight - meaning it's very portable and doesn't require you to have physiotherapy after having it around your neck for a whole day.

The Dynax5 is Minolta's serious amateur's camera and frankly, it wipes the floor with equivalently priced models by any other manufacturer. Choc-full of features and well worth the money at a more than reasonable £250.00 (as of March 2003).
Features in detail:
LENS
You can buy the Dynax5 on its own with no lens, or with a 28-80mm (D) zoom lens (I'll explain the 'D' bit later). Some other combinations exist, but these are down to individual companies.
The 28-80mm gives decent coverage, from landscapes to portraits, and is a good lens with which to start. If your photographic interests take you into a specific area of photography e.g. close-up work, professional portraiture, landscape photography etc, you might consider buying more specialised lenses which give better results than the basic 28-80. I recently bought this Camera after spending ages mulling over 3 options. The Formidable Canon EOS 350D, the Nikon D50 and this, the Konica MinoltaDynax5D. There are several reasons why i chose this camera out of the three similarly matched cameras. Firstly, i do a lot of photography under dim conditions, so the anti-shake technology was a big positive. Secondly, it came with a 18-70mm rather than a 18-55mm lens like the other two, again, an advantage.
The camera does take excellent photos, under most conditions. Sometimes the white balance needs a little help though. For example when you are in a room lit with both Tungsten lamps and some cloudy sunlight. This can easily be sorted by choosing the appropriate Kelvin temperature from the White Balance dedicated dial.

This is the first Digital SLR camara I bought. One of the main reasons for buying the Dynax5D, is that my lenses from My old 35mm Dynax 4 fitted the 55mm ring. If you're just starting out with SLR, you can't do much wrong with this camera, you can find a good selection of lenses (that don't have to be made by Minolta if you're on a budget) and filters. The anti shake feture is good and will help a little for zoom photography. The built in flash is excellent for head shots, never have I even seen a hint of red eye. One downfall are the limited amount of pixels, but this is fine for amature photography. I'm no expert on photography, but it's hard to take a bad photo. Other models to consider would be the Cannon Rebel. ...
