Since I have to handle the streets every day, I decided to take (n.b. to take not to buy) a gps receiver. People who knows me also knows I am an "accumulation of shopping points - addicted"; I saw this receiver in the catalogue with the prizes you can take by buying a famous brand of fuel. I began the accumulation and I brought it home in a month more or less.
The package contains, with the product itself, a car support, a cd with the supplementary maps, a usb - mini usb cable to connect the receiver to the pc, a series of warranty and other signs like that and one sheet (yes, ONE sheet) where the instructions are written. You can find more detailed info in the cd with the maps, but I think a booklet would have been useful!
Once you've easily installed the support on the windscreen (and here I have to applaud to the firm that produces it because in almost six months of use, it never happened, and I underline NEVER, that the support broke away from the glass... with other devices you can often have this problem), you go on by setting the gps receiver and by connecting the supply socket to the cigar-lighter. You can also connect it to the supplementary light socket, like I did (don't worry if the socket suggests a maximum electrical absorption, usually from 150 to 250 watt, because this device absorbs a few energy).
By turning on the MIO C-250 for the first time you have to set the data for the initialization like hour and day or your personal POI (points of interest) as your favourite departure/arrival address (this last thing is not necessary but so useful!).
The use is not so easy for two reasons:
- First one: the abstruse way the menu works that forces you to search in different sub-pages to make chained operations - Second one: the insufficient sensibility of the touch-screen that sometimes doesn't immediately recognize your touch or recognizes it in a place you didn't press
Maps, at least in my version of the item, aren't so up-to-date and if you don't be careful you risk to decisively "slide into" a no entry street recently reversed and to find in front of you (also this one is a personal experience) a patrol car who rebukes you for the traffic offence (5 points on your driving licence and a fine of 242 euros... GRRRR!!)
A supplementary funcion which is as for me decidedly useless: you can transform MIO in an mp3 player by using SD card.
After all this little gadget made me save lots of time... and is still making. So my judgement can only be almost positive.
The new model is called C250 and it is a full navigation system that features an MP3 player as well. The new Mio C250 has a 3.5? screen and it comes loaded with maps of UK and major roads of Europe. Not only that but you also get speed camera locations with free updates for a year as well as free traffic alerts.
