Mirrors Edge is a fine game, Don't let me say it's not. But Mirrors Edge is a perfect example of a good game overcome with flaws.
The idea and plot are original and very compelling, the kind of plot that would make a good movie and gameplay that challenges the tide of mainstream mediocrity that is poured forth from Game manufacturers these days.
The first Person aspect Of the game is a welcome break; such games that allowed such ranges of movement include Assassins Creed, notably a third person experience. Mirrors edge made the brave attempt to put their game into first person to make the experience more personal, to put the player in the characters shoes.
However this bravery is not without its problems, occasionally you will be faced with a nice, free flowing movement area only to jump to a ledge and have to search for your next target, however the movement speed is slow and this puts a huge break in the flow of the game. These pauses in action are unfortunately far too common and leave the game riddled with unnecessary breaks.
Graphically the game is splendid, the city is made up of almost entirely white and Grey buildings that glimmer and shine in the sunlight, it is all very picturesque. The game is very intelligent in the way that your path is highlighted by anything that is RED. This however poses a problem within itself. The game is supposed to be an open game, yet you can only go where there is a red path.
But back to the graphics?they?re stunning and the environments ?look? open and expensive. At this point I begin to wonder why the designers set most of the game underground in the dark, depressing sewers where the graphical processing power of the 360 is a little bit lost. It?s very unfortunate.
However I would still recommend you try this game out, despite its flaws it?s still a genuinely good game with a great deal of story and a lot to offer gaming fans.
It?s a good effort at something new, with a little bit of work it?d only get better?
Roll on Mirrors Edge 2.
