Stephen King’s imagination is unreal. He has written so many horror books and still he can come up with better ones. I have read a couple of his novels, but I think “Misery” is one of the best and everybody should read this.
It is the story of a very successful writer, who has a car accident and is found by his “greatest fan”. His car is totally buried in snow and the poor guy is very severely injured and thus depends on his saviour’s mercy. All is fine for the moment, but once he has somewhat regained his strength, he realises that it will not be so easy to leave. She is captivated by him and makes up all sorts of excuses why he cannot leave just yet. Police are searching for him, but they give up pretty quickly, when their efforts fail to produce a result.
The nurse finds and reads a yet unpublished version of a new book, in which her heroine, “Misery” dies. This is the ending to a long sequel of books and she will not accept that. The nurse identifies herself with “Misery” and so she thinks the author is killing her too.
He makes many efforts to outwit and charm his “prisonwarden”, but when he fails, his punishments are incredibly hard and leave him in a worse position. Compliance is the only way to go, he realises and starts writing a new novel, in which “Misery” will not die……. This is where I will leave you, because any more information would spoil it for you.
Of course there are many obstacles and twists until King reaches his conclusion. It is a very readable book, gruesome at times, but it will grip you from the first page to the last.

A good starter review. More detail would get a higher rating though.

A good review but you could have included much more detail about the plot, characters, pace, good points, bad points etc. Read this novel a while ago now and enjoyed it immensely. A heart-pounding read. Ellie.

Advantages: A nice gripping and readable novel ; A terrific tale of survival ; Very atmospheric ; The characters thoughts and feelings are projected well to the reader Disadvantages: Suddenly stops flowing towards the middle ; King can be slightly over obsequious towards the main character
