So what would you do handcuffed to the bed, with your loving dead on the floor and the telephone out of reach, and the nearest neighbours several miles away. Well unfortunately Jessie (the woman handcuffed to the bed) has to play through her past in her head, and struggle to get a glass of water off the shelf above her. It is interesting to read about her attempts to escape the handcuffs, and I was just dying to know how she was going to escape. Especially when she sees a figure in the room with her looking like the grim reaper. The book does not really take off until she makes her final attempt to escape, and the events of the investigation afterwards. A seemingly unrelated case of a grave robber who did sick things with the corpses comes to Jessie's attention and the guy looks like the Grim reaper. If this angle was developed further in the novel rather than in the last few chapters it would have been a much more entertaining read. If you're willing to plod through the early chapters, it's well worth a read.
