So... What do you get when you cross a famous author with a number one fan?
What comes to mind is a deadly self-obsession where chances of surviving are closest to zero. In this case the self-obsession is Paul Sheldon a famous author of many books but one that cannot be forgotten. The name of the book is Misery, one of his works he is not particularly fond of but someone else is...
Character Analysis
The characters in the famously written book Misery are not only bone chilling, but after a while you might almost think they are real.
* Annie Wilkes- She is Paul Sheldon's number one fan, and plans to never let him go alive. Her infatuation with the one novel with the character Misery in it has got a great influence on the way she treats Paul, and tortures him.
* Paul Sheldon- A famous author that has written many number one selling novels and books recently goes missing after a car crash on the side of the road. And he is not found for many, many months to come after winter has long past by.
The Setting
Funny you ask, no where else other than the cozy home of Annie Wilkes, do not get too comfortable though sometimes people do not end up ever leaving this psycho-lady's home.
Small Summary
What happens when a famous author disappears off the face of the Earth with no traces whatsoever? Something is clearly wrong with this picture. It happens to be Annie Wilkes who comes to the rescue after Paul Sheldon has been in a deadly car crash, she picks him up off the side of the road and takes him home. And yes, Annie knows who this is, no other than her favorite author.
Paul wakes up with his legs snapped in half, so he was a cripple. His car crash could have not done all this damage that he had suffered. Then he finally gets the opportunity to meet Annie. She shares her stories with Paul, and is always sure to feed him his Novrille, and sometimes injects him with unknown substances against his own will. What is someone to do in Paul's situation? Perhaps commit suicide, to just easily end all the hell Annie Wilkes intends to put Paul through as she smiles with dark clouds on the horizon.
She tells Paul how it is, if he does not obey her or sneaks about out of his room he will suffer greatly. Whatever you do, do not think about the ax in the shed.
*What does Paul think of Annie Wilkes? *
Paul Sheldon is not only bewildered by Annie Wilkes, but is sometimes puzzled and put in a state of half-conscious thinking. With all the drugs she hits him up with, Paul literally goes insane starting to talk to the Crown typewriter and himself and the many voices in his head. He does test her limits, hiding things from Annie, which most of the time is not successful. He memorizes her facial features and knows when she is about to loose it which only calls for trouble. Basically Paul Sheldon knows Annie Wilkes is a serial killer, after discovering her past through an old dusty book found in the den. She is a psycho-fan that wants Paul to finish a novel called Misery's return just for her in the dedications. After this, time is running out and she wants to put an end to both of their lives quickly and easily.
Thriller
Misery is a bone-chilling thriller in its own sense, and once you start reading, you will not want to stop that easily... Whatever you do, remember it is only a story right? It is almost believable something like this could possibly, or did happen to somebody once you get in an entrapment.
Before you start reading Misery make sure you check the doors are locked, the lights are on, and that Annie Wilkes is not under your bed. P L E A S A N T D R E A M S ...

Advantages: Brilliant characters who excite powerful emotions within the reader Disadvantages: It drags on a little at times, reading type-written sections is annoying after awhile
Advantages: A nice gripping and readable novel ; A terrific tale of survival ; Very atmospheric ; The characters thoughts and feelings are projected well to the reader Disadvantages: Suddenly stops flowing towards the middle ; King can be slightly over obsequious towards the main character
