When getting dressed in the morning i'll often consider what i'll be doing that day. This will often involve sitting in a hot room at some point or perhaps walking up a steep hill. Hmm.. so perhaps I shouldn't choose a top that's tight under my armpits for heaven forbid, I should get the dreaded SWEAT PATCHES. They are paticularly dreaded because they do make you feel self conscious, and even if the sweat doesn't smell, you're always convinced it does.
So its summertime and i'm yet again trying a new deodorant. Looking for something a bit more effective. Searching the shelves in Boots I see Mitchum's 'Cool Dry' on offer with £1 off. So priced at £2.59 normal price being £3.59. A little pricey compared to other deodorants.
The packaging is simple and sleek, with a transparent lid. Please note that the current packaging is rather different (and more attractive) then the picture ciao has displayed. It has a lighter green label, the lid isn't tinted green and is less rounded in shape. It also has a phrase with great promise written on the front; ''So Effective You Could Even Skip A Day'' Wow! I buy it immediately. For only an extra pound than what I usually pay for a deodorant, this stuff sounds amazing. I'd chosen 'Powder Fresh' simply because it was highlighted in pink, and being female this attracted me.
This deodorant claims to be different because it is the 'World's First Hydro Solid' - it has an exclusive water based formula. Something different is always worth a try!
Firstly the smell was a little like washing up liquid. Not brilliant but certainly not unpleasent. First you remove a plastic protector which keeps the air out by turning the easy-to-use dial at the bottom. I first tried pulling the plastic bit off myself but after many failed attemps I realised you had turn the dial!
When opened the deodorant is a solid and glides on very easily. It isn't very creamy like some deodorants but more moist. A problem I have found is that after a while, when you're nearing the end of it's use, it becomes a little drier and doesn't glide on quite so effectively or easily.
Immediately after shaving it does sting a little, but half an hour later it's fine to apply.
I have been using it for months and am happy to say that I discovered the 'Shower Fresh' version. Much nicer than 'Powder Fresh'. It has quite a strong scent that I really like. I've had several comments about my nice perfume when really it's only been my deodorant!
I tend to buy it at Boots, and luckily every time I do there's a buy one get one free offer, or at least a pound off, which means so far I don't paticularly feel it's more expensive. Also the price has now been lowered, and is now available for £2.99 for the standard 40ml.
When putting it on, you don't need to stand around for ages with your arms up in the air! It dries really quickly, probably because it isn't wet in the first place, and then there's no fear of it marking your clothes either!
The best thing about this deodorant is the fact that it really does do what it says, it keeps the sweat at bay. It's not a miracle by all means, it doesn't combat sweat completely. But it definately beats all other major deodorant bands for this purpose. My sweat patches are practically a thing of the past!
Another great thing is the fact it really doesn't leave any white marks. Yes really! This is fantastic because I have had to throw out a few dark coloured tops because of deodorants that left marks. Not nice.
The 'skip a day' promise could work. Perhaps if you applied it before bed, the night before. But really i'd just rather use it every day to ensure freshness. It is a positive though if you happened to forget to put it on one day, you'd certainly feel more at ease than you would have felt with an ordinary deodorant.
I suppose what I want to say is, this is no ordinary deodorant. It's just that extra bit more effective that makes it worth spending the extra pound or two.
Remember not to apply to irritated or damaged skin and to discontinue use if irritation occurrs after use.
For some time now, my anti perspirant of choice has been anything which is a hydro solid, and one brand in particular, which has featured in a former review.
I like these hydro solids because one of my pet hates is getting up in the morning and either spraying cold spray onto myself and having the white bits fall to the floor, or rolling a cold liquid on. It's all to do with cold, especially in the winter.
These offer the perfect solution…effective ... ...buy a new product, I always like the promises they make. Usually they all promise more or less the same thing but give no real indication as to how they can deliver this promise.
This is a good one…it promises to be so effective that you can miss a day. I don't know about anyone else but I like my daily bath or shower, and unless under extreme circumstances, would not like to give my bath a miss just to prove the effectiveness of the product. It ...

Advantages: It works. Disadvantages: Irritates my skin.
...of the solid version of Mitchum deodorant. I prefer un-perfumed deodorants but as there were none in the shop and I knew that this worked reasonable well, I decided it was better than nothing.
The packaging
The "hydro solid" deodorant comes in clear packaging with green labels on it. It is kind of like a large oval pritt stick which you rub on your arm pits (except it's deodorant and not glue). I believe roll ons are available as I ... ...the deodorant makes the following claims:
+ "proven 48 hr protection"
+ "no white marks"
+ "So Effective You Could Even Skip A Day"
The back label also tells me that it is non sting. There is an ingredients list and instructions on how to use the deodorant.
The Aroma
Although I prefer un-perfumed deodorants, I don't really notice the smell of these. The "powderfresh" smells like baby powder and the "shower fresh" smells like a combination ...

Advantages: doesn't leave white marks Disadvantages: stinks, expensive, doesn't work, the list goes on...
...How fickle am I?
Mitchum wasn't recommended to me by anyone, I remember buying it after weeks of seeing the tube on the supermarket shelves screaming at me that it was apparently so effective you could skip a day using it. Now why anyone would want to skip a day using deodorant, however effective it is, is beyond me. I would feel very dirty after showering and not putting deodorant on.
Believe me there has been occasions when I've either been very ... ...normal cream sticks?
Basically Mitchum is water based, which they claim to be unique. There is nothing glamorous or special about the packaging Mitchum offers. Very similar to all the other brands of stick deodorants you will find on the supermarket shelves. It looks cheaper compared to other brands as its got a lot of clear plastic, so you can nearly see inside the product. One possible good point with this is you can see the how much of the stick ...

Advantages: Solve Your Sweat Problem Disadvantages: Cheap Packaging
...to themselves. The product is Mitchum deodorant.
The Product
Mitchum is an un-perfumed roll-on deodorant. It is manufactured by Revlon who are normally associated with make-up and other beauty products. They are so confident in the effectiveness of this product that and I quote they advertise that "you could even skip a day". Furthermore it claims to be highly effective against problem perspiration. To use apply evenly to underarms. The liquid ... ...it is unscented I think it smells a little bit like washing up liquid when you initially put it on this however thankfully dies down quickly. I was intrigued to read that it had been clinically proven to provide 48 hour protection also.
The Packaging
It comes in a light green quite ordinary plastic roll-on deodorant bottle. A bit disappointing when you find out that's it made by Revlon whose packaging is normally quite nice. Has a screw-top. No ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: It stings you for your pains
...one breaks the tradition because Mitchum Cool Dry Deodorant is the worst product I have ever used.
As usual, I discovered this new product during one of my regular jaunts to Boots. Deodorant was on my list of things I really needed to get so I was delighted to see something on special offer. 'Hooray,' I thought as I examined the product packaging. 'This looks amazing!'
And it did. Cool Dry seemed perfect for summer use. It claimed to be the 'world's ... ...water and therefore meant to glide onto the skin providing instant coolness and dryness. Hence the name. (Now that I write this I realise that using water to be dry is a bit daft!)
Other brilliant claims were that white residue would be a thing of distant memory and that the product wouldn't sting 'even after shaving'. My eyes were by now bulging out of their sockets as I'm sure you can imagine. The trademark catch phrase promised that the product ...

Advantages: Goes on dry, keeps you dry Disadvantages: Price
...Last Christmas I went hunting for an effective anti-perspirant deodorant which would prevent my expensive party clothes from getting that awful white staining which has happened in the past. Luckily Boots had an offer on the Mitchumcooldry range of deodorants and this drew my attention and tempted me to try them. I bought the unperfumed stick which is a anti-perspirant deodorant with anti bacterial protection. It was a complete success and from that time I have become a regular buyer.
Yes, even my teenage son has given the thumbs up to this product and is now a ‘cool and dry’ man! I had despaired of ever finding a deodorant which would work for him and prevent his school shirts from discolouring, staining and smelling. Despite careful washing the odour still wafted up from his shirts as I ironed them.
They...
