First off
The engine is dreadful. Noisy, rough and with absolutely no power to it and not really enough torque to compensate. The turbo lags until about 2500rpm when it hits you badly under hard acceleration. It is VERY lethargic until the turbo finally spools
Mine's just a base model on an 02 plate so it has a Tape player rather than CD, a plastic fantastic dash and cloth seats. But again, this for me is good. The interior doesn't pretend to be from a Rolls-Royce. It's almost like it's just there because they had no other choice
Next, the steering is a mixed bag. Requires no effort(very light) but also very vague-makes parking very nerve wracking although is nice for the open road unless you really want to hammer it (which you wouldn't want to in this anyway)
Over every single bump, the car bounces-particularly at the back and this, coupled with the hard seats makes it very uncomfortable
The strangest thing for me to start with was the lack of balance front to rear. There's a heavy diesel engine up front and very little weight out back. In the wet, on the standard Bridgestone Duelers it's easy to spin the backs inadvertently, particularly on hill starts. Mine's been improved tenfold with General Grabber AT2s, although only because I spend a fair amount of time offroad. They look the part too-big, chunky, square tyres with white sidewall writing although do create fair tyre roar. This serves well to drown out the rattle and vibration of the 2.5l TD engine though!
I like the long throw 5 speed manual box- it's slick although the ratios aren't great for the open roads. Around town 1st and 2nd gears work admirably though and the shift-on-the-fly 4 wheel drive system is a godsend for hillstarts with a heavy trailer (I've towed well over the 2.7 tonne limit with a fair amount of ease).
Hard cornering is not advised-the rear will swing out very easily with very little weight over it, off road focused tyres and the throttle pushed. Particularly in the wet which is good fun in, say, an Opel Manta if you're fairly adept at controlling oversteer but not good fun in this. In fact, after having done this inadvertently once, I'm not going to do it again.
Talking of handling, in fairness to it, for a heavy, tall car body control is very good and there is very little roll. However, the harsh ride and surprise oversteer do a good job of overshadowing this!
I had no choice in buying the car-it was my father's work car (towing, off road and carrying bales and so on), which he had as a company car (and paid the standard commercial car tax on). When I turned 17, he had my name added to the insurance policy and it became 'my' car which he just borrowed for chores so I missed out ridiculously high insurance I would have paid if I owned it myself and I didn't have to pay a penny to buy it. Even after the tax loophole was removed, we just stuck a big company sticker on the back and said it was used for delivery duties and advertising to get the tax reduction back!
Fuel is expensive, although it seems to use SLIGHTLY less if I leave the tailgate down, due to it acting like a big air scoop and ruining the aerodynamics.
It didn't even look out of place in Abersoch or Salcombe-particularly with wetsuits, wakeboards and waterskis in the back and it covered in mud from North Wales off roading-another area where it does a good job
Ok so it's not comfortable or cheap to run (unless you're lucky, like me), it's slow and it's no sports car to hustle through a few corners
But despite all this, I love it. I love the high up driving position, I've learnt to love the vague steering and it sends out the right image
The 4Life badge tells you everything you need to know-it is a lifestyle car. You can get 4 guys and a big tent in and a few crates of beer and a boat on the back
It's not like a Range Rover or an X5 type of 4x4-it's a working class hero. It gets its job done and is fantastic fun at the same time-it just has character-period
And that's what I look for in a car above all else
I've had the time of my life with this car. NOTHING could have done it more admirably-apart from maybe if I lived in America and could get my hands on a Dodge Ram 1500 or a Ford F-150
Advantages: Hmm, erm, well not really any other than a tax perk. Disadvantages: Just a terrible, terrible truck really.
...drug, beats me. Mitsubishi have lost the plot as far as cars go, with the exception of the Evo. Even the help of Daimler Chrysler could not help this ailing company from producing a car worthy of the price they charge and this beast aint worth the plastic it is made from. Looks wise, the L200 is a different story, with the Animal and the Warrior giving it a boost and lots of stuck on chrome (They use blobs of mastic!) bling it up for the egotistical ... ...somewhat unreliable which is unlike Mitsubishi but I have seen these trucks come back no a daily basis with blown out engines. There seems to be a few teething problems that have gone on for a while now. Overall this truck is uncomfortable, heavy on the juice and expensive to run but it wont stop the middle aged wannabe's buying them and sporting surf wear and bleached hair. If you need a truck for work then fair play but you can carry more in the ...

...stylish pick ups offered by mitsubishi amongst other manufacurers have fitted the gap in the industry perfectly. I was bought a 2001 mitsubushi l200 by my Dad as i needed a decent and reliable vehicle for work aswell as leisure. The vehicle i have is the mitsubushi triton which is powered by a 3 litre V6 petrol engine (laterly lpg converted). --- The Drive ---

The suspension is quite firm, so the ride can be a little bumpy at times depending on the road condition. Bearing in mind this is not a luxury 4x4 so dont expect a super smooth ride. This is designed for carrying things firstly. The engine is responsive and the automatic gear box is reasonably smooth. Acceleration is excellent as expected from a large ...

...of nowhere, we were given Mitsubishi and Mazda pickups to use in the mud.
With slush and mud sometimes getting up to two feet deep in certain places (not to mention what tractor treads can do the bare earth) this pickup worked marvelously.
With the non-turbo charged assigned to the general staff, I was only able to drive the non-turbo version. The L200s (when fitted with all-terrain tyres) had a higher ground clearance than the Mazdas and moved ... ...and cannot afford a Hummer or a Ford F-50, then invest in a Mitsubishi L200 Turbo - and make friends with someone who owns a tow-truck with a powerful winch.
The L200 will get you there, with all the style and power you need, at a rather affordable price. ...

...4 turbodiesel engine is a Mitsubishi stalwart and should last forever - it's very understressed with a mere 98bhp but it keeps up okay with traffic. Fuel economy hovers around 30MPG, which isn't too bad considering.
This isn't a great car, but if you need a pick up it's probably one of the best. ...

...been pestering me for the mitsubishi L200 for a while but after only driving for 8 months the sheer thought of a machine that size was seriously frightning. But i gave in and went to test drive a 53reg silver warrior which had no VAT on it as some other private user had already paid it.If you are a private buyer this is something you seriously need to consider. To my surprise the ease of driving this vehicle was amazing. When you get in the vehicle ... ...after a phone call to mitsubishi the service was going to cost £270 (ouch). The interior of the car is very typical of a japenese car it is not full of gadgets or 5star luxery but everything is exactly laid out where it should be. Also i should mention that this car does not come with an alarm as standard.
For a commercial user there is no better vehicle in my opinion the car does exactly what it says on the tin its a big heavy load lugger which ...

I have had my Toyota Hilux Invincible 3.0 for about five months now (sept 2008) and i love it!!!
Costing around £18,000 new
I tried all the competition before choosing this one. The L200 (Mitsubishi) was too twitchy on the road and looks to garish for my taste. The Navara is an excellent option but is just too expensive 25K for their top of the range model
It may have been a bit of a mid life crisis decision but it was a good one. I have had family hatch backs before, Nissan Primera, Toyota Avensis, vauxhall cavalier etc and they have all served their purpose well but in recent years we have taken up camping in a big way with four or five trips a year. This is where the Hilux comes into its own.
It has the comfort of a hatchback in the cabin with ample seating for up to 5 adults in comfort Air conditioning, CD player Sat Nav ...
Advantages: Unusual, Refined, Powerful Disadvantages: Gets attention of potential car thieves
on the lights and automatically adjusts the car interior temperature to a comfortable 70 degrees F.
In terms of competitors, the Cadillac EXT could be compared against the Nissan Navara, MitsubishiL200 or Toyota Hilux but those trucks look tiny compared to the Cadillac Escalade EXT and none can match the luxury of the Cadillac interior. More realistcally, compare it to other American imports like the Dodge Ram 1500 or Ford F150. True, the EXT could be used in a utilitarian manner like many of those trucks but with a leather and wood-trimmed interior, a bevy of multimedia cabin features, and enough chrome to make you squint, the 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT declares its true comfort-focused mission.
