---Brief---
Working in the construction industry it is difficult to find a compromise between a leisure vehicle and a works vehicle. However the new generation of stylish pick ups offered by mitsubishi amongst other manufacurers have fitted the gap in the industry perfectly.
I was bought a 2001 mitsubushi l200 by my Dad as i needed a decent and reliable vehicle for work aswell as leisure. The vehicle i have is the mitsubushi triton which is powered by a 3 litre V6 petrolengine (laterly lpg converted).
--- The Drive ---
Being a large 4x4 vehicle the seating position is higher than i was used to. This took a bit of getting used to but now i absolutely love it. You sit higher than the majority of people and your all around vision is much improved. The suspension is quite firm, so the ride can be a little bumpy at times depending on the road condition. Bearing in mind this is not a luxury 4x4 so dont expect a super smooth ride. This is designed for carrying things firstly. The engine is responsive and the automatic gear box is reasonably smooth. Acceleration is excellent as expected from a large 3 litre petrol engine.
--- Interior ---
The interior is of good quality and is well made. The dash board does look a little dated but is based on the standard dash supplied on the earlier model. There is nothing fancy about the interior but it still looks good. Higher spec models such as the warrior and animal are the thing to buy if you are looking for fancy interior. These come with leather seats, different trims amongst other extras. The air conditioning controls are simplistic with a simple knob for heat adjustment and sliding adjusters for the air direction.
--- Exterior ---
This car looks superb and is very meaty. It has a great road presence. On its release the new generation of mitsubushi l200's was a real head turner, as nothing like it had been seen before. This was the first in the generation of stylish pick ups. Another thing is that it is rare you that will find an l200 that looks the same as another. Some have backs to them while others have anti roll bars, both come in many different types. This vehicle is very customisable allowing yours to have its own identity. It almost seems a shame to use it for work as it just looks to good!
---Costs---
My l200 cost £10,000 with 40,000 miles on the clock and at 3 years old i think this is very reasonable. As for running costs, on a good run the petrol engine will do around 20-25 mpg. This isnt too bad for a car of its size. However, we bought the car lpg converted so paying with 40p a litre instead of 90p, it is a very cheap car to run. Insurance is quite expensive and the petrol model comes in at insurance group 15.
---Reliability---
After owning the car for 6 months i have had no problems at all. The only thing i have had done were new brake pads, but this is just general wear and not the fault of the car. These cars are designed for hard work so you can expect alot out of it.
--- Cons---
The seats are a little hard, so take a pillow for a long journery! Many new models of stylish pick ups have come into production and begin to date the l200 a little. However i think the l200 will look great for years to come. Its a handful to park so not really for town or city driving.
Overall this is an excellent car and ideal for a work and leisure and i would highly recommend it.

Ouch!
This car is a pig!
Turning circle of a lorry and the ride quality of a JCB.
Have driven about 10 different variations and would rather drive a skip with wheels. Not a nice car and the Auto gear box in the revamped version is nothing short of shoddy.
Bad car with huge tappit problems, best to avoid.
