All my friends and family were getting fed up of being diverted straight to my BT answer phone when calling my house. This is due to me being on the Internet all day everyday. I think the time had come for me to get myself a mobile.
I wanted something cheap and I most certainly wanted pay as you go. That way, when I run out of money near the end of the month I knew I wouldn’t be able to continue to drum up hefty phone bills.

Although the phone itself isn’t as cool as the Nokia phones and you can’t get endless amounts of ring tones and logos for it, it isn’t ugly or bulky by any means and its curvy shape allows for easy gripping and it slips easily into your pocket.
The main number keys are covered by a flip down cover so you won’t be phoning people by accident – for extra safety there’s also a keypad lock. The phone only takes a couple of hours to charge and once charged can last me up to three days, which I don’t think, is bad at all.
With a simple press of the number ‘3’ key on the phone you will be connected to the pre pay top up centre where you can top up using a pre pay voucher or using a switch card.
The Internet is easily accessed via a shortcut on the main screen so by pressing that and then once more to connect, you are on your way to surfing on your mobile. You can also add a bookmark to all your favourite sites.
When I very first got this mobile I could only view certain websites but I was astonished last month when I logged on and found that I could read the text on every page I tried on the net and I could even check my own mailboxes via the mobile which I though was just fantastic.
The phone has a whole load of other features with easy to use voicemail and txt messaging, it gives you a full call log of received and missed calls with dates and times, it has call waiting, a phone book, a nice selection of ring tones, a back light, a scratchpad, currency converter and a very reliable alarm clock which will switch on to wake you up even when you’ve turn the phone itself off!
I’m on BT Cellnet with this phone and twice in the last four months, BT has been offering free WAP access for a full month at a time. This is to encourage more people to use wap and it definitely gave me the chance to have a good play about with it without using up too much of my credit. I’m forever low on credit but at least I know that if I run out, the phone is still there and in full working order allowing other people to contact me.

Advantages: Easy to use, better than any of my old phones! pleasing to the eye, good reception and battery life. Disadvantages: Not the prettiest, funkiest or sexiest mobile around.
I guess that the world does have a sense of poetic justice after all. Just a couple of weeks after my glowing op on my old motorola phone, which I described as being really robust, despite taking a sub-aquaitc trip in the sink, the bloody thing decides to just give up the ghost whilst sitting in my pocket. Don't ask me, I don't get it either.
Anyway, luckily I was in possession of a newly hard-earned student loan check, but even so, my frugality ... ...I'm a tight-arse) would not allow me to spend an exorbitant amount on something that is, essentially, only there to talk to people on. I want a phone, not a fashion accessory, dammit, and wasn't about to spend over a hundred pounds just to get something pretty. So, after trawling the shops of Liverpool to find a phone to fit my budget, and being told that the very cheapest I would get was £70, I stumbled upon a tiny little shop which, oddly enough, ...

Advantages: Can connect you to the mobile internet Disadvantages: Some features are only available to Pay Monthly users
This was the first WAP phone on Pay as you go with BT Cellnet. It started out at a very high price and came with many special offers. Since then the price has gone down drastically but the special offers are still there. Is this due to the phone itself, the retailers or the network? Well let me tell you about this phone...
It's good... it makes and receives calls (when you can get network reception due to the poor quality of the aerial), it sends ... ...of ten times, it connects to the mobile internet (at 10p per minute when it actually decides to connect, plus the WAP access is fairly slow and poor as it is hard to navigate around it), it looks fairly stylish (yet it is quite big and heavy at around 149 grams), it has a big screen (but not big enough for most WAP pages), you can use it on most networks (according to the menu functions you can even use it abroad, yet not on Pay as you go and isn't ...

I bought this phone 6 months ago mainly because I wanted internet access. It was a replacement for a Philips phone which had served me well for quite a long time. I was attracted by the price of £29.99 and the BT pay as you go scheme.
Internet access was from the start at the best haphazard and the small display panel didn’t help as in anything less than sunlight it became difficult to read, there was of course the back light but this led ... ...specified with all the refinements that you expect on a modern phone, but it is let down by what I believe to be a poor aerial. I collect my daughter at night from work and phone when I arrive to let her know that I am waiting, or should I say that I used to as this phone will not even connect to the network when I park to wait for her. Admittedly the buildings around about are tall but my old Phillips connected first time every time from the same ...

Advantages: Relatively Cheap. Some Good Features Disadvantages: Absolutely NO GAMES (Shock Horrror!)
I first used my Trium mobile phone several years back when I received it as a gift at christmas. It came as part of a pay and go package which included £5 worth of free call time, plus £2.50 extra if you set up your voicemail within a certain period of time. I was jolly pleased with the phone, even though I hadn't really got a clue what to expect.
Here is a breakdown of some of its features:
Text Messaging:
Most mobile phones these days can send ... ...special T9 feature, it guesses what you are about to write, making it much easier to write messages. Plus on BTCellnet SMSing is only 10P so it is relatively cheap!
Phone Calls:
Okay, now onto the important bit, phone calls. After all this is what you really want a mobile for isn't it?! The quality of the sound is great (as long as you are in signal) and is all you could want from a mobile. BTCellnet have good coverage too, which obviously helps ...

The Siemens c35 is a mobile intenet Wap compatible phone, aesthetically it is quite pleasing with a simple button layout and an imposing silhouette. The two most useful buttons are the top navigation buttons, they allow many hours of useful internet surfing which are possible with the battery talktime of 500 minutes, this compares very favourably to the MitsubishiTriumGeo which has only three hours of talktime. It is also one of the lightest W A P phones available at only 110g, the call quality is always excellent which is a bonus. ...

Advantages: Absolutely Blahdy Amazing for the money!!! Disadvantages: Hmm.....
Strangely enough, it was actually a coincidence that I got this phone - it was sent instead of a Motorola by BTcellnet mail order - but boy am I glad they did. I have previously owned a MitsubishiTriumGeo-@ - which I really liked - but it was a bit big, I didn't like the pull out antenna and it had no games....
So, as if having read my mind, Trium come up with this little beauty. Weighing in at only 115g, the dinky little thing comes with a 'rubber boot' thing kinda like the one supplied with the Moto V.2288 which you clip around the outside to change its look. It also has replaceable back and keypad panels should you want to alter its already stunning appearance further.
It fits perfectly in the palm of your hand and gets admiring looks from all around - its distinctive and slightly unusual appearance makes it stand out ...
