There are no additional items that come with this mouse, no charger, no battery and no bluetooth dongle. Almost all laptops come with a PC Card (aka PCMCIA) slot which is precisely where this little creature lives. It slots into your PC Card slot which is incredibly convenient as it means you don't have to carry an external mouse around with you, adding to the already cluttered collection of charger, battery and cables that you have might carry about with your portable computer. The mouse also charges whilst inside this slot but only when your laptop is turned on.
When taking the mouse out of the packaging there are very simple instructions, in English only, that explain how to connect the device to your bluetooth. If you do not have bluetooth built into your laptop you will need to purchase any bluetooth dongle to use this mouse. No passkey is necessary to connect the device, all you need to do is set up your laptop to search for bluetooth devices, either using the Windows wizard or your bluetooth's proprietary software. Once you have done this, turn on the mouse by flicking the kickstand down and then clicking any mouse button. You then simply press the connect button on the bottom of the mouse and you're set to use it. You only have to do this the first time you use the mouse.
As I mentioned, there is a kickstand on the bottom of the mouse which must be flicked down, using a small tab on the side, to use the device. This means under use the mouse is angled as if it were a cheese wedge, making it more ergonomic to use. Once you click once on any of the two mouse buttons the mouse activates and instantly connects to your bluetooth receiver.
At first when I bought this mouse I was sceptical as to how long the battery life would be and whether the optical sensor would be very accurate. I can confidently say that the battery life is sufficient for any of your portable needs as it will easily outlast your laptop's battery life. During general use, work and gaming the battery has never died on me. As a precaution it is very easily to pop the mouse back into the PC Card slot while your taking a break. A full charge only takes between 30 minutes to an hour. However from a power consumption stand, any user of bluetooth will have no doubt realised that enabling bluetooth significantly impacts a laptop's battery life.
Under use I found that the mouse is not very responsive when you move it from a stopped state, that is when you want to move the mouse a small amount when it is stationary it tends to jump a little. When moving the cursor around the screen normally it works perfectly. What you may find is that you have to change the cursor speed in Windows to compensate for the difference with using a normal mouse. This is no different to connecting any other mouse, however it will have an effect of your touchpad cursor as well.
Despite the fact the mouse is held up by a kick stand it feels well made and sturdy. This is partially because it is so small, like other laptop mice, that you do not actually rest your hand on it; rather just push it around with your thumb and outer fingers. The size of the mouse also means that it is almost feather light which is quite strange at first. Try stacking up a few credit cards and sliding them around on your mouse pad and you'll know what I mean!
Since the bottom of the mouse is exposed under operation the red flashing light used for the optical sensor is very visible and can get irritating. To add to this there is very bright blue light that flashes on the front top of the mouse indicating the bluetooth is connected.
One feature that many users may miss is the scroll wheel. In future releases it would be nice if they incorporated some sort of touch sensitive scroll bars like those that are now making their way onto desktop keyboards. The only buttons you can use on the mouse are the standard left and right click buttons.
The mouse is great for general use but look somewhere else of you may want to be doing touch-ups in your favourite photo editor. For a convenience point of view there is no substitute. It is a great use for that PC Card slot that is so rarely used on modern laptops that now have built in wifi and bluetooth. I am happy with my purchase and will be keeping my MoGo :-)
