Whenever one is in the company of others, one must remember to pay the utmost attention to the needs of everybody but themselves. With this in mind, one can be expected to be concerned with the rigours of mobile telecommunications. How does one discern the priority of an incoming call? What best use has one of the text message option? And how does one go about ascertaining the tone to take with someone who has dialled in error to your telephonic device? Cling to my apron strings darlings, and Auntie Pru shall guide you through the heady maze of mobile phone etiquette. ***THE PUBLIC CALL*** ... more

Advantages Advantages Mobile phones are essential for emergencies

Disadvantages Disadvantages Mobile phones are a nuisance in theatres etc

The section entitled mobile phone etiquette interested me as I have seen so many displays of complete ignorance shown when using mobiles, I felt I had to have my say! I have always resisted the urge to get a mobile phone myself until recently. I felt that, as I didn’t drive and as such would not need the emergency value of the phone, I would not buy one just to be one of the crowd as it were. I have now left my job and use my computer on a regular basis, so my land telephone line is often occupied. I decided to buy a mobile phone so that my parents would be able to contact me in an ... more

Advantages Advantages Used well it frees up your life.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Used badly it spoils the lives of others.

Yes, mobile phones are both revolutionary and fantastically useful, as well as intrusive and potentially antisocial. What matters of course is how the phone is used, for example, the company it is used in, or where it is used. My mobile phone has enhanced my life without a doubt, but when I use it in company I often feel embarassed and rude, and when others use theirs I feel irritation and bemusement. Why? - because we are social animals, polite ones at that, and are reluctant to foist our life on others by talking loudly so a small plastic box, while others listen (and yes, they do listen) ... more

Advantages Advantages useful in emergencies, in sickness, travel, time and money saver!!)

Disadvantages Disadvantages can be annoying if used loudly in an inconsiderate manner

With the sudden surge in ownership of mobile phones due to advances in telecommunications technology one must not forget a few simple and basic rules of politeness and consideration. Whilst it appears to be an everyday fact of life that wherever you go these days your ears will be subjected to a wide array of bells and tunes of mobile phones and people talking out loudly. From school children as young as 7 years old to University students and so on ..they’ve all got them..fine.. and are using them loudly without any consideration about thinking of there surroundings. I guess many mobile phone ... more

The old joke was you were never alone with Schizophrenia the modern day equivalent is you are never alone with a mobile phone. I think anyone who has heard conversations in public toilets will testify to that. The first question is always where are you? “ at the shops” you hear them lie Thank goodness they don’t come with camera. There are for and against in the mobile phone debate. For They can save lives. As been demonstrated in mountaineers lost in the hills being able to summon help quickly when they get lost. They are ideal for getting help Police ambulance etc in the ... more
