Toshiba Portege G500 - Business on the go

Advantages: Finger print recognition, GPS functionality, video calling
Disadvantages: High price, average features.

The Toshiba Portege G500 was one of two smart phones released in the second quarter of 2007. However, with the introduction of Microsoft's new mobile operating system (Windows Mobile 6), Toshiba decided not to integrate the new system within the Toshiba Portege G500. Instead they went with the older Windows mobile 5 operating system. A wise choice? This phone like the Toshiba Portege G900 has fingerprint recognition, which is a security bonus for ...
...Overall I think that Toshiba have made a very good phone. But due to the minority of phones that include a fingerprint recognition feature, I personally think Toshiba have purposefully put a high price on the G500 for that reason, 1. To increase sales revenue and profit and 2. To globally make a name for themselves by claiming to be the "first" to integrate the newest & most innovative programs and features presently provided. I recommend this phone ...

Cheap touchscreen windows power smartphone is there such a thing?

Advantages: Cheap price! Good features - on paper at least
Disadvantages: Loads - design flaws / slow video playback etc.

The Portege G910 is now on sale at an extremely cheap £109 (£159 after £50 cashback), and yet its specifications will probably rival £300 - £400 smartphones at first glance. So what makes it so generously priced? Is this some kind of a mistake? It's most definitely not... read on! --- the BASICS --- The G910 is a Windows 6.0 powered smartphone. This corresponds to Windows XP of an equivalent desktop system (with 6.1 being Windows Vista). The phone ...
...a 2 megapixel camera, Wifi, GPS, 3G and a fingerprint reader. --- USABILITY --- (Introduction) As I will always point out the most important thing a smartphone needs is speed. The N95 8GB (another phone I have reviewed) has a very decent response time (due to it being powered by a dual-core processor). The G910 however, the minute you switch it on, will takes minutes to load up. The loading screen does look nice though. Moreover, once you are in ...

Toshiba Portege G710

Advantages: stylish design, good display quality, convenient QWERTY keyboard
Disadvantages: poor battery life, Windows language support issue, poor headphone sound, miniUSB audio jack

I purchased a new Toshiba Portege 710 under VDA GPS(Vodafone) branding in Germany for about 100 Euro, and I must say that in my opinion the device has few, if any, competitors for the price, but I discovered a few drawbacks which I found more or less disappointing: 1) The battery life is really poor compared to a budget-class mobile phone I previously had. I've been using the phone for 3 weeks only, but the battery runs from fully charged to flat ...
...talking. One of my intentions was to use the phone as a pocket e-book reader, but as I see reading at "bright" highlight level discharges the battery completely very quickly. Strangely enough to me, the phone is losing datetime settings when the battery runs flat, so unless you charge it regularly you'll have to reset system time over and over again... :(( 2) Windows Mobile 6 is OK- but because it is a Standard edition and there is no touch-screen, ...

Initially viewed as a letdown but can be made superb!

Advantages: Good processor speed, great screen res, great when upgraded, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, camera
Disadvantages: Dubious reception, gaming issues, default OS isn't as good as potential upgrades

The Toshiba G900 is still quite a fine mobile device today, even up against the giants of the modern mobile market. That is, when you know your way with gadgetry. First of all, let me say that the Toshiba G900 is more of a PDA than a phone. It is a PDA with phone usage as its secondary function. As a PDA it's very useful. As a phone, it works, but it's not quite perfect. The main issue with the phone is that I've heard many reports of bad reception. ...
...the default operating system that Toshiba ships the phone with is slowed down with lots of unnecessary features and files. If you know where to look you can find out how to flash your phone so it can run newer versions of Windows Mobile. If you get the right ROMs (you flash your phone with these), not only will your phone run a lot faster, but it will really look the part too, and add heaps of functionality. Also, are you a gamer? If so, you may ...

...of its own. The Toshiba TS10 is one of the thinest phones on the market at the moment and, as far as I know, only on Vodafone PAYG for £50.00 which in my mind is very, very good value for money. A stylish phone for a fraction of the price. UPDATED: 15th February 2006 Unfortunately I had to take the handset back to Vodafone once as it would not ring when on the charger it would just vibrate. When I got my second handset unfortunately it went from ...
