Advantages: Good service, good prices, good advice Disadvantages: No obvious ones
Having passed the two Mobile Phones Direct stores in Reading several times, and thinking little of them, a flyer came through my door offering a phone with a year's paid line rental. I decided to investigate, and it turned out that I could essentially have a refurbished Panasonic GD52 for £24 (a year's worth of itemised billing). Once I got to the shop, it was a matter of minutes before I was online: the credit check took place online, the phone ... ...both occasions.
Mobile Phones Direct appear to have several stores around the UK; the two in Reading seem well staffed and well organised. The staff are all knowledgeable, and able to carry through a transaction with little more than what you'd normally carry in your wallet - all you need is a bank statement, and your bank card, and you're off, so long as you're financially sound.
Once I got to the shop, it was a matter of minutes before I was online: the credit check took place online, the phone was connected, and I was offered a choice of numbers - all pretty good. The fact that the phone wasn't brand new didn't bother me - having done some preliminary investigation it was pretty small - and, as it was on Vodafone, unlocked.
Only two days later I returned to the store with a friend, who bought a 6210 (and swapped with my 3310 as that was the phone she wanted); again, service was quick, but, as the phone was being registered with Singlepoint, everything had to be done by phone. It is, apparently, the Vodafone Connect subscriptions that are done online. Singlepoint also register Vodafone contracts - why the two have to be done differently is anyone's guess. However, the service from the shop staff was good - £10 for the phone, along with leather case, car charger and handsfree was what I considered to be a bargain. OK, Dial-a-phone were offering it for free, but they cocked up big time. In the end, if a high street store is offering good deals like this, I'd say the service is worth a tenner. Not only that, I'd also say that they're far better than the Carphone Warehouse in terms of advice, and queueing time - we were served straight away on both occasions.

I admit that I didn't investigate the advice they offer, as, when I go shopping for phones, I know exactly what I want before I go in, but, having watched the staff handling other customers, I can say that I for one would stand by the advice they offer.
...brand new phone with T mobile contract. I was very happy for about a week, then on the second week the phone started to behave odd. It deleted all my files and was coming up with message saying 'memory is in use'. I called up mobile phones direct but the person was quite rude the way he handled the call and told me to write email to their webshop and also said there is no live customer service support. The email service would take 5 days to send ... ...Mobile Phones Direct, we're committed to providing you with the best customer service in the mobile phone industry" [http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/customerServices/index.aspx])
So I did email their web shop and mentioned about the issue. Luckily I got the reply 2 days later, only to have learnt that the phone is 7 days old and we cannot do anything about the fault. Please speak to the repair centre.
Well I first took the phone to nokia care ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Only interested in sale.
I tried to purchase a mobiletelephone from Dixons, and when the sales assistant saw that I was interested in the mobile phones he was in for the kill. He instantly directed me to the more expensie phones telling me the reasons that they were so much better, he also directed me towards the more expensive contracts. When I said I'd call back later he tried telling me that the phone was hard to get hold of and that he would be more than likely sold out by the end of the day. The phone in question was a 3210 which as most people would know is one of the most popular phones on the market and is readily availible at most retailers. ...

Advantages: generous 50 minutes free each day! (off-peak)!! 14-day money back gurantee Disadvantages: peak calls high 35p/min, contract..? have to pay by direct debit
/min during the day - but there is a way round this!!!**]
PAYMENT:-
How do you pay for this? You have to pay direct debit every month, at 50p/day, that works out around £15 pounds a month, no further line rentals costs etc. Paying by direct debit for mobiletelephones is definitely cheaper than the "Pay as you go" which have very high call costs, not like 1p/min off peak, like this one. Since writing this pay-as you go phone and tariff are getting cheaper, but are still not as cheap as this generous package. If you really need a mobile phone and can keep the 12 month contract, its worth it.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:-
Now down to the important stuff, like when you have a problem...
So whats the customer service like? Sometimes the waiting time can be long upto 20 minutes at busy times but overall I stil feel it's excellent. You are always ...

Advantages: good tariffs, good choice of phones Disadvantages: sometimes expensive to call out of the country
change to is tesco extra mobile and this costs no extra so long as you top up a minimum of £15 per month. although it costs somewhat of alot of money to top up for people who do not use their phone regularly the savings are immense for those who do. This entitles you to all texts at 5p each and all calls at 10p per minute.
Customer Service...
I have only ever dealt with the customer service of tesco mobile once when my phone randomly asked for a PUK code for seemingly no reason. I could not call tesco mobiledirectly as the number was in my mobiles phonebook that required a PUK code to do anything with the phone so I simply called my nearest tesco store. I spoke to a woman there who said she would help me if she could, she was very very friendly although she could not help me, but then she was not from the mobile department, but she passed ...
