Small and Compact Modem
Review of Apple USB Modem by gviscomi

Advantages: Small and Compact
Disadvantages: Something extra to carry

This modem was introduced by apple after the 56k modem was dropped from the October 12, 2005 Revision of the iMac G5. It is a combined 56 kbit/s data modem and 14.4 kbit/s fax modem which also supports V.92, caller ID, wake-on-ring, telephone answering (V.253), and modem on hold. The moden itself happens to be manufactured by Motorola and all OSX systems above Tiger version 10.4.3. have the driver pre installed. Its use is very simple, as it connects ...
...end and to the phone line at the other, at this point the device can be found in the network settings of System Preferences. I have had it for a while now and use it with my Macbook Pro while away from my broadband connection, I like the fact that it is so small in size which is an advantage while traveling. ... Awful modem
Review of Huawei E220 by crimereporter

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Prone to causing the BSOD

...The modem model is: HUAWEI E220N (HSDPA USB). The IMEI number is: 358193015995492. Therefore, the crisis is over. In closing, ...
...modems, but it's too limited and possibly US-orientated. I'm in the UK. Microsoft really needs to sort out this matter and help UK users have a clearly defined list of approved wireless modems to choose from - as well as a blacklist of dangerous ones (such as the HUAWEI E220N). ... Read review

Great value and Very reliable
Review of Vodafone Mobile Connect Card 3G/GPRS by webspot

Advantages: Good cheap way of getting internet on the move
Disadvantages: Took a little time to find the right AP address

I bought the 3g datacard off ebay for a fairly good price. I was intending to use it with the ubuntu linux operating system, after I read that other people have been successful in getting it to work on Ubuntu. The card has a small LED which lights up according to the status of the card. It lights up red when it can't find a signal, or it's trying to find a signal. The LED goes green if you are able to connect to a GPRS connection. GPRS usually gives ...
...if you find that you have the great little blue light, you're good to go onto the 3g network. 50KB/s. Much faster. I've found that this card has been quite reliable at keeping a signal. I'm using the driver that is built into ubuntu linux, which helped setting up the card easily and quickly. This is great value seeing that most 3g phones that you could use as a modem are so much more money. Well worth the money in my opinion ... Read review
