better connections in the UK
Review of USRobotics 56K Message Modem by zig3d

Advantages: easy to install, bets modem to use
Disadvantages: bit more expensive than normal modems

I have had many months of poor connections or even lack of connections and engaged tones, that was until I bought an external 3 COM [previously US Robotics] modem. The modem was a good 20 pounds more expensive than all of the other types of model I would usually buy. Well it is the best extra money I have ever spent. I suddenly found myself conencting to all of the ISP's that I couldn't in the past. I was sure it was them, but it was my orginal ... Read review

Not quite what it seems
Review of USRobotics 56K Professional Message Modem by Gerryhill

Advantages: Good answer/fax when you're away from home
Disadvantages: Rings when a fax comes in

I bought this modem because of it's stand alone fax and voice receive: I wanted to be able to collect both when away from home. In that respect it's fine - it takes messages and faxes while the computer is off any you're away. Where it goes wrong is the way it works when you're at home. You can set it to answer after 5 rings, giving you time to pick up the phone, but if you're too slow and pick up the phone after it's started recording there's no ...
...the speaker and recorded as well. When a fax comes in, it's worse: unlike a proper fax machine, it can't be set so that it doesn't ring when a fax arrives. So, if you're at home you inevitably pick up the phone only to find that you're interrupting an incoming fax. So I've had to buy a fax machine for use when I'm at home :-(( On the other hand, it seems to be a perfectly good modem. I get download speeds at least as good as my other 56k device, ... Not Bad
Review of USRobotics Message Modem Plus by darkteckno

Advantages: Features
Disadvantages: Software

The 56K Message Modem can be left to store incoming voice and fax messages while your computer is switched off. Access your messages remotely using a touch tone telephone or turn your computer into a full duplex hands-free telephone. Worst complaint is the software supplied with it, it is generic and the manual is for the professional message modem. Contacted 3Com support and they only supplied the same software/documentation again. Can't figure ... Read review

Good solid product
Review of USRobotics 56K Voice Faxmodem by djfoulkes

Advantages: Fast, robust, compatible
Disadvantages: Slightly highly priced

This modem is the first I have found which is solid, reliable and fully compatible. I have always had trouble with modems which do not work or only work under certain conditions. 3Com provide lifetime technical support and even a lifetime warranty on their domestic modem products. I have only once had to contact technical support, and the even offered to ring me back to save me the cost of the phone call. Although this modem is slightly highly ... Read review

Awful modem
Review of Huawei E220 by crimereporter

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Prone to causing the BSOD

...The modem model is: HUAWEI E220N (HSDPA USB). The IMEI number is: 358193015995492. Microsoft may wish to add to it's knowledge database that this modem can cause crashes when wireless signal reception is (at least) variable. My current working modem is an 'ICON 225' connected to the 'Orange Broadband' network. I've had this extensively in operation for most of this week and not even a hint of crashing. Therefore, the crisis is over. In closing, ...
...modems, but it's too limited and possibly US-orientated. I'm in the UK. Microsoft really needs to sort out this matter and help UK users have a clearly defined list of approved wireless modems to choose from - as well as a blacklist of dangerous ones (such as the HUAWEI E220N). ... Read review
