"I am not the we of anybody."
Review of Slow Man - J. M. Coetzee by sunmeilan

Advantages: Thought-provoking
Disadvantages: Some may find it strange

Introduction I have heard of J M Coetzee, but had no idea why until I did some research on this book and found out that he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2003. He is also the first author to have won the Booker Prize twice. As such, I was expecting something rather complicated and dry. I couldn't have been more wrong. What I found was a very original piece of writing that was both vivid and thought-provoking. The story Paul Rayment is out ...
...a car comes out of nowhere and sends him flying. When he comes to, he is told that he is going to lose one of his legs from just above the knee. At age 60, he is sure that his life is over and turns his back on his friends, relying on nursing services to keep him washed and fed. After a series of disastrous nurses, he is finally sent one that he can put up with. Marijana is Croatian and looks after him while treating him as an adult rather than a ... Read review

What A Story!
Review of The Book Thief - Markus Zusak by LiviaLavelle

Advantages: Compelling Novel, absoloutly fantastic.
Disadvantages: Death occasionaly comes out with spoilers (tad annoying)

The book thief is an extrordinarily clever novel written by Australian author Marcus Zusak. We are brought on a terribly marvelous journey that takes place in the height of the second world war. What sets this book apart from the others? The story is told in the point of view of death! Death tells us the tale of Liesel Meminger a nine year old girl who is being fostered by the Hubberman family on himmel street. Her foster father teachers Liesel ...
...adventure, death, unlikely friendships and the sheer conquest of serving in Nazi Germany. A true story that will enlighten and sorrow the hearts of all readers and really deserves the five starts I am going to give this book. This book is lengthly and very diferent to any other WW2 book you may have previously read. ... Read review

An Beautifully woven masterpiece!
Review of The Thirteenth Tale - Diane Setterfield by LiviaLavelle

Advantages: A real page turner, one to grip the heart of the reader!
Disadvantages: At times the twist may be a tad confusing, you must stick with it!

...a book to read on the plane I had a quick scan of mums book case and came upon this rare treat. The Thirteenth Tale is an amazing novel and has to be Diane Setterfield's masterpiece. This novel has it's reader traveling through an intricatly woven and twisted plot . It is unlike anything I have ever read. Setterfield tells the tale of a young writer, who is called to write a biography for a famous novelist Vida Winter. No-one knows who this mysterious ...
...the heart of her intriguing story of Angelfield. This novel is literaly superb, it is one to challenge the classics. A modern day Jane Eyre. It's the sort of novel that novelists don't brave to write anymore, but in my opinion these are the ones that are deeply rewarding both for the author and the reader. I would recommened this book if you are looking for a challenging novel, something that'll stay with you for a long time... ... Read review

Green's book is an enjoyable read
Review of Second Chance - Jane Green by RomaniRose

Advantages: Thought-provoking
Disadvantages: At times was a little unrealistic

This chic-flick by Jane Green was a thoroughly enjoyable read. It had me laughing and crying. The tale of friends brought together by the death of a loved one was particularly moving and relevant to todays word. Moreover the issues that are documented throughout the book are identifiable - the difficulties of marriage, the trials of IVF, Alcoholics Anonymouns and even single-parenting. Despite being filled with such heavy topics the book still maintains ...
...want to put it down and found that I read it quickly in just a few days, so I would reccomend the book to anyone who wants some chick-lit with a bit of depth and stimulating topics aswell. There will be one character in there for everyone to relate to. ... Read review

Emotions and comedy from a male point of view.
Review of Dinner For Two - Mike Gayle by RomaniRose

Advantages: Funny and light-hearted.
Disadvantages: Can be slow at times.

This Mike Gayle book is interesting reading, looking at the relationship between father and daughter and husband and wife. The book shows teh consequences of a one night stand and how they can surprise you years down the line. The book kept me gripped and was a good page turner without being too heavy. It is refreshing to read a book about emotions written from a male point of view. Both funny and heart-renching at times, with sad and comic moments ... Read review
