Advantages: Good portrayal of immigrant lifestyles, compelling at times and thought provoking
Disadvantages: Not a page turner at times.

When beginning to read Brick Lane, the writing style seemed pretentious, almost mocking. But persevering with the book you have to look within the different layers to really feel the story.
