This is such a great book that I really do not want to ruin it for you by giving away the plot! This may mean that this review is not that long but please mark it on quality not quantity. ...is not a sequel to Daughter of Fortune Eliza and Tao Chi'en are in it and you learn of the fate of their relationship, although they are not the main focus of the story. Advantages: Opens ones eyes to horrors that occured in Chile
Disadvantages: confusing at times, slow moving

...The author tells the story of lives changed and controlled by acts of evil. This evil that dramatically affects the lives of thousands of innocent people. The book really is a valuable history lesson, in that it highlights to the world the torture that took place over many years. Allende perfectly captures the fear and emotions present at the time. In the midst of all this, the book is about a couple destined to be together called Irene and Francisco. ...
...and become closer due to traumatic events that befall them along the way. At one point Irene is shot and Francisco tenderly helps her get better. Luckily, love conquers all, although you do not realise this until the end. The book starts off slowly and confusingly, but quickly becomes a page turner.
