Lord of the flies..Is it for me.?
Advantages: Cleverly written Disadvantages: Sometimes hard to follow, need good understanding
LOrd of the flies, an award winning book, aknowledged by many, is a book a very few teenagers like. You start to appreciate the book, once when you have read it and start comparing the style of writing and the actual story. The characters involved are boys aged 7 -12 stranded on a desert island,, during the war, but the book is a microcosm of what happens in the real world, with adults and Golding expertly demonstrates the problem of power in the ...

looking for jj, looking for a new life
Advantages: brilliantly written book to read Disadvantages: can't seem to be able to find the strength to put it down
Looking for JJ, looking for a new life, looking for a new start where no one knows her past, or her background, she's changed; she doesn't know what overcame her to kill her. "Three children walked away from the cottages on the edge of town towards Berwick waters. Later that day, only two of them come back…"
Jennifer Jones has been in prison for the last six years for murdering a girl who was bossy, and b***hy. Jennifer didn't mean to, she remembers ... ...years. She doesn't need papers, or prison to make her feel the guilt of it all, she already has it lumbered upon her back. That one spring day, where an accident happened, three girls went out to the woods, yet only two of them came back. Alice Tully is one of the only people that know who Jennifer is, and what she's like as a real person. Alice has a life, a job, a boyfriend who she loves truly, and friends who stand by her through everything. Alice ...

The Wonderfully Colourful Life of Pi
Advantages: Very well-written, funny, unputdownable Disadvantages: As with every book, it has to finish at some point
LIfe of Pi is a story about a teenage boy living in India in the 1970s; nothing is particularly staid about Pi: his name is short for Piscine (as in the French word for 'swimming pool), his father runs a zoo, and Pi decides that there is room in his heart for Hinduism, Christianity and Islam (at one point he thanks Lord Krishna for bringing Jesus into his life)! However, Pi's father decides to relocate to Canada, and on the journey (which he has ... ...ocean to the new continent, Pi's ship is wrecked and he finds himself stuck on a lifeboat with a hyena, an orang-utan, a zebra with a broken leg and a large Bengal tiger. What ensues is Pi's attempt to survive in this highly unusual situation, which he does for far longer than would be expected I found this book very readable and felt quite saddened when I finally finished it; Pi is a very well-constructed character with whom the reader can identify ...

Lucky by Alice Sebold
Advantages: Addictive reading Disadvantages: Can be a bit disturbing to start off
...which you must read - Lucky is a harrowing, heart-wrenching book about the worst possible thing that can happen to a woman. Alice Sebold tells the raw story of her rape ordeal and her subsequent struggle for recovery with an honesty and warmth which is compelling. I have to be honest, when I first started reading this book it is a bit disturbing reading about someone's rape, especially the author but then you think that, that person must be so brave ... ...Alice Sebold for that.
Lucky reads almost like a novel itself at times, with gripping moments of suspense, particularly during the court trial scenes.
Alice Sebold was the innocent victim of an unforgivable crime - but she doesn't ask for our sympathy or pity in these beautifully written pages. She earns our respect and admiration for the courageous way she tells how the traumatic events changed and shaped her life; how the naive college student ...

We have all done it!
Advantages: Comfortable read, and not predictable Disadvantages: Can you really have a passionate love affair with someone with THAT name?
...especially at the end.
Lizzie Jordan, is a quite typical girl in her twenties with her head stuck firmly in the clouds. She had the love affair of her life in uni and no one since has ever matched up. She keeps in touch with him via email as he lives in America, but creates a new imaginary life for herself, which catches up with her 6 years later when he asks to visit. He is now a high flying business man with the world at his feet. I think as much ... ...bit of the Lizzie Jordan in us; we'd all like our ex's to think we are successful, rich and happy but Lizzie truly does go the whole hog! She is a likeable person, and ok the lies do go too far, but the book is written in such a way that you can sympathise with her and hey, we have all done it! If truth be known she is actually a typist, with a grotty flat and boring boyfriend, and friends who are slightly odd. Like all chick lit she goes on a journey ...
