Pornographically good
Advantages: Great insight to what these characters we love to hate have been doing Disadvantages: you'll be up all night not being able to put this down
I brought this book after watching Trainspotting, I love the dialogue at the end, The Choose life one, when it suddenly occured to me that Irvine himself but be an alright sort of writer. After trawling all the bookshops for Trainspotting and not being patient enough for it to be delivered I decided to buy Porno, the sequel. I can honestly say this book changed my life, Welsh's depiction of how different personalities work, what makes them tick, ... ...and really hit home. The way we know Spud who really just hasnt a clue or the confidence to be himself, his need to be liked and loved by others leads to exactly the opposite. My favourite character though is Sick Boy who's always scheming, and ever growing coke habit lead to him being stupidly over confident and therefore eventually lead to his loss of money, girlfriend and anything else he ever had. I love the way his overconfidence and constant ...

How far would you go? Break the rules that you live by?
Advantages: Keeps you reading and learning about the Amish lifestyle. Disadvantages: None that I can think of right now!
Plain Truth to me was a compelling story that kept me reading at every page.
When I started the book, I knew of the Amish lifestyle but didn't know it to great detail and what you learn while reading the book is fascinating.
The book is about a young amish teenager, who throughout the pregnancy kept it a secret, gives birth to a baby that after dies. This then goes to a courtroom drama trying to reveal the truth - who killed the baby?
At first ... ...goes on, and the implications of Amish life mixed in with being a normal teenager are crossed and the struggles that go along with it all, make you keep reading.
I recommend this book as it is a very interesting read and does keep you thinking and asking questions.
A very good book. ...

Excellent and uplifting, definite holiday reading
Advantages: The storyline and characters Disadvantages: none!
This book is definietly as per the blurb and the critics reviews ... and more. I read this when on holiday recently and enjoyed every page of it. Freya North has depicted the ups and downs of relationships in an excellent way. This is the first Freya North book I have read and I certainly intend to read more now that I have read this one. It was just a shame it ended how it did rather than carrying on a few more chapters. I was certainly disappointed ... ...many different points of view of certain situations which is brilliant. The themes of sleepwalking and love are very prominent in this book and are explored in such a way so as to be informative yet compelling to read at the same time. The information that the Author has given about Tanzanite is very interesting too ... this book has definitely taugt me a lot through the course of the forty or so chapters! Excellent book, well worth a read! ...

Ha Ha Ha the Whole Way Through
Advantages: Takes you back Disadvantages: Hard to put down
...a boy of ten - Paddy Clarke - growing up fast and discovering new aspects of childhood as each day passes.
Paddy Clarke has a realism which helps to explain Doyle's success. Through this realism the reader can rediscover some of the forgotten tragic and comic areas of childhood.
"Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha" deals with Paddy and his hatred for his brother, peer group and his mother and fathers rocky marriage in 1960's Ireland. Paddy tells the story throughout ... ...understanding the situation fully, just as we do not fully understand the ramblings of a ten year old's day at school. Roddy Doyle's use of dialogue in this novel brings you back to your childhood as you remember how cruel children can be to each other,
"-Really, the referee will have to take control of the situation.
-Shut up you.
-I'm supposed to talk. It's my job.
-Shut up; your dad's and alco."
This insult is deliberately chosen to hurt. ...

Making the most of Precious Time
Advantages: Easy going light hearted reading Disadvantages: Predictable plot
A review of Precious Time a novel by Erica James
Precious Time is a modern novel with a romantic, gentle feel to it. My last book review was a gritty, dramatic piece of writing, 'Precious Time' is a complete contrast. You would feel comfortable allowing your 14 year old to read it or even your 90 year old grandmother. I bought the book as the synopsis read well, describing a young woman who gives up her job and buys a camper van in order travel ... ...a little like my current lifestyle so appealed to me.
**The storyline**
Clara Costello has a well paid job, a desirable home, friends and family around her. She is also a single mother to a little boy named Ned. As Clara is faced with Ned due to start school later in the year she decides to rent out her home, leave her job and take Ned traveling in a second hand camper van for the spring and summer. She feels that she has not spent enough time ...
