The other hand by Chris Cleave
Advantages: I will read it again Disadvantages: my friends all want to borrow it
...this book because I read the blurb and I was intrigued because there wasn't much of a blurb. Two lines about how two women meet and their lives are changed forever. Is that it? you might say or if you're at all like me you'll have to buy it because you will have to know what it's all about. But here is the honest bit the main reason I bought this book is because it was under a fiver in Tesco. Ok so I promise not to give anything away, I know people ... ...about the story because I don't want to spoil it for you. I can tell you why I loved it though. I took the book on holiday with me recently not expecting much more for my fiver than a throwaway beach read. But the story was so well written that I could hardly put it down. It is told from the poin of views of the two central characters and almost immediately you can't help but feel an affinity with them. What I loved most about the book is how the ...

Get thrown headfirst into the Roaring Twenties!
Advantages: Fast paced easy read, funny, well written characters Disadvantages: Slow start, weak love interest
...given when her new book, Twenties Girl, was released that I would be eager to read it. When Lara Lington finds out her 105 year old Great Aunt Sadie has died it's the least of her worries - having recently been inexplicably dumped by her boyfriend Josh, and having just set up her own headhunting business with school friend and professional headhunter Natasha, only for Natasha to go swanning off to Goa with no sign of return, leaving Lara desperately ... ...enough to worry about. But when Lara finds herself being haunted by Great Aunt Sadie, reinvented as her 23 year old self and determined to track down her favourite dragonfly necklace, she finds her life turned upside down as she tries to find the necklace. But who would have taken the necklace and why? Sadie is not your typical 'old lady' and her attempts to live vicariously through Lara see Lara behaving in ways she would never have considered - ...

I LOVE TWILIGHT!
Advantages: like me, reader's will be addicted with this book, and you'll fall in love with Edward Cullen! Disadvantages: I can't think of nothing, really
...was after I searched about Twilight on the net and learned that there's going to be a movie about it. Except for the vampire theme which I love to read, what I like about this book is that it's a bit mysterious and the fact that even it's a bit on the supernatural side it never looses its human drama. Since it's about first love, romance, and friendship. Just reading this book makes me want to go back in high school and hoping to find love like what ... ...an idea about what kind of guy to look for. I know that there was no one as perfect as Edward Cullen, but still, it doesn't hurt to find someone who's just like him in some ways. Like a guy who was a gentleman, sweet, compassionate, romantic, and would rather hurt himself than see the one he loves to be hurt. Well, it doesn't hurt if he's also a bit on the good looking side. Well, I really like this book that's why I can't help myself but to read ...

Away Win!
Advantages: Very well written story Disadvantages: Not for the squeamish
The popularity of films like ''Green Street'' and ''Football Factory'', which depict football violence seem to have increased over recent years whilst the violence itself has been decreasing. This, combined with an increase in the number of ''true life stories'' type books means that those people who took part in this kind of behaviour can now talk about it more freely and to a wider audience. Although marketed as fiction, Kevin Sampson's ''Awaydays'' ... ...Paul Carty is from a fairly decent area of Birkenhead and shouldn't really be interested in going to football matches purely for the violence. But since his mother's death, he finds it easier to lose himself in a world of casual violence and equally casual sex than to face the home life he would have without her. He inhabits an area between the two worlds, feeling estranged from the family he still lives with, but never being entirely accepted by ...

THE PRETTIEST BOOK ON THE SHELF??? HELL, YEAH!
Advantages: addictive, great characters, book itself is very pretty (gold cover!) Disadvantages: absence of usual laugh out loud moments, hardback pretty expensive
...I was initially disappointed that the book wasn't continuing the Walsh Family saga ("Watermelon", "Rachel's Holiday", "Angels" and "Anybody Out There?" all starred a member of the Walsh family and I've long been hoping the youngest and most interesting sister Helen would get a starring role - maybe next book, eh Marian???) but this book sounded like an interesting premise and I was eager to get stuck into it. I wasn't disappointed. "The Brightest ... ...of 66 Star Street and the people in their lives. The residents of four flats, all with their own stories and secrets . . . and a mysterious omnipresent visitor who has access to their worlds and thoughts without seeming to have a key . . . or even a body of their own! There are individual storylines regarding each of the residents, but at times their stories interlink and overlap with the resident of another flat, especially as the story begins to ...
