I first fell in love with the Bronze B1's at my local Hi-Fi store on a warm September day nearly a year ago now.
I was a little put off by a £149 price tag on such a compact set of speakers, but after a test-listen my heart was set on these gorgeous pieces of British engineering.
It isn't often that you find products that are truly made in Britain - Most of the electrical equipment I own is made in Taiwan or China, apart from my beloved Sherwood amplifier. That's why I wanted the Bronze B1's so badly - a fully British Hi-Fi setup! And more imporantly, because they sound simply amazing...
I had a test listen in a small room at the Hi-Fi store, and was more than a little impressed, I can tell you. They sounded simply amazing! So I parted with the money, and within 15 minutes of getting the box into my hands my system was set up and ready to go at home.
I always loved listening to my Rock music through my Sennheiser headphones, as they managed to give the music exactly as it should sound - None added, none taken away.
Deep, juicy lows and crisp, sharp highs are what make the Sennheiser headphones the article of choice when it comes to a relaxing music session - But what if I wanted Green Day at loud, floorshaking volumes? The headphones would distort, and my ancient Wharfedale speakers certainly were not up to the job. They quake in their boots at the Windows XP Logon sound, let alone an hour of continuous, devastatingly loud Punk Rock!
So do the Monitor Audio Bronze B1's keep music as it was recorded? Thankfully, the answer is yes. It really does sound as if my room has been teleported to a live concert if I crank up a live recording of a good concert!
I tried the Monitor Audio speakers in my larger living room as a test of how they can really fill a large space with sound. The results were not quite as good as when they were in my cozy upstairs bedroom, but they still did surprisingly well considering they are diminutive compared to offerings from Mission and other companies.
Looks wise, I opted for the Cherry cabinets on my B1s, but an option of Beech and Mahogany is also available for no extra charge.
to sum up, I strongly reccomment you take a good, long look and listen at the Monitor Audio Bronze B1's before assuming that £150 ish is far too much to spend on a pair of stereo speakers.
You never know - Like me, they could be the best audio upgrade you ever bought.
