I own a Musical Fidelity a3.5 Amp & Cd player and decided to upgrade my speakers to get the most out of my system.

I went to Super-fi and Sevenoaks to hear what they had.

I was immediately frawn to the Monitor Audio delection by these little speakers, but when i saw the price tag of £800 i thought they were overprices, especially seeing as they are only bookshelves.

after tyring out some B&W 603 speakers i felt a little disapointed by the lack of detail and crisp-ness of hi-hat reproduction.

I chose one of my favourite songs Nickelback - Someday as the song i would use to test all the different speakers.
It is important that you use the same kit that you have when trying out speakers, because the amp, cd player, interconnects, speaker cables and mains cable can make a differnece.

i have QED silver spiral interconnects, QED silver anniversary speaker cable and a VanDenHul mains cable.

After the disappointment of the Bowers & Wilkins i was convinced to try some KEF iQ9. these were much better on the detail but the bass was lacking and didnt want to have a seperate subwoofer.

Then i tried the Monitor Audio GS10's and although they are only small and have no dedicated bass driver, the sound was incredible.

The bass was a deep rumble, which you could not only hear but feel in your chest. The definiton of the hi-hat was as good as the KEF and you could feel the "oumph" that these speakers were producing.

Beware if you buy these that the stands are £200 extra, but the proper stand has spikes which dig into the carpet to keep it all stable.

There is a variety of awesome finishes on the Monitor Audio Gold Series which cannot be beaten by any other manufacturer i have seen.
There is : cherry, rosewood, walnut & light oak veneer which are all wood finishes with a nice thick layer of clear resin to give the shines look.

there is also a silver lacquer finish which i personally do not like.

the last finish availible, and my favourite is the piano black laquer.
As the name tells you, it is built to look like a grand piano and has a deep black coloured cabinet with 7 layers of paint and varnish to give a fantastic look.
Only problem is all of these finishes show up fingerprints so be prepared to not touch, or clean regularly.

You can only hear for yourself the fantastic sound given by these incredible little speakers, so i strongly advide going to listen to them.

I had never heard of monitor audio before i went into sevenoaks but just by looking at anything in the Gold series you can see the quality, and trust me it is fantastic.

I am so imressed by the monitor audio Gold Series i am considering upgrading to the GS20s
