5 Stars Monopoly Review with images 30/01/2013

Advantages Advantages cheap, fun for all the family, will last years

Disadvantages Disadvantages can take forever to finish a game!

My son loved the monopoly crazy cash game that I bought him last Christmas but we kept having issues with the cash machine sticking and this affected play and so this year I decided to buy him the normal version of monopoly for Christmas as I felt he would be able to cope with the game now that he was that bit older. This is my review of the game. What is it? I’m sure most people are aware of what monopoly is because it is one of those classic games which seem to have been around forever! It was in fact devised in 1934 and so it really has stood the test of time. I certainly remember playing ... more

Advantages Advantages Addictive game play, suitable for all ages

Disadvantages Disadvantages When you lose, you really lose!

For as long as I can remember, my absolute favourite of all board games has been Monopoly. As children, my sister and I would spend hours playing the game, and even now as an adult, I thoroughly enjoy a game with my mates (albeit accompanied by a bottle of beer or two). As a game, Monopoly is essentially timeless – it is a tribute to the longevity of the game that this is still the best selling board game in the world today, 67 years after the game was originally designed. Currently, Monopoly is sold in over 80 countries, in 26 different languages, and you can buy a vast selection of ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good family fun

Disadvantages Disadvantages Game can last for hours

Whoa! If you play this old classic game against someone like my boyfriend you know they take its name to heart!! I was slaughtered! “Monopoly”, an old family favourite for up to 6 players from Waddingtons in the old trademark simple red and white box – my set is ancient but it doesn’t seem to have changed much over the years. It used to cost about a fiver but I’m guessing it’s probably around the £20 mark these days but well worth it. It seems people either love or hate it and I don’t play it often as it seems most people I know hate it! Admittedly the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Superb Family fun

Disadvantages Disadvantages It can cause mayhem and arguments galore

Monopoly must be the most played board game ever, in the world, I mean is there anyone out there that has not dabbled in this superbly addictive and competitive board game, and at the same time, had many an argument with friends and family over the rules and various other things. I know the game is a very old concept, but it is a pure classic, that will be enjoyed for many a generation. History of the game: An unemployed American called “Charles Darrow” thought up the game in 1934, and took it along to show Parker Brothers executives, to whom actually turned the game down, because ... more

Advantages Advantages Great game, fun to play, enjoyable for all the family

Disadvantages Disadvantages I'm no good at it

Monopoly or monotony Monopoly must be one of the world’s best known board games. Based on buying property and letting it out for profit, the idea is to make the other players in the game bankrupt, thus ensuring you get the monopoly. * - History Back in 1934, at a time when the Great Depression was in full swing and many Americans were unemployed, Charles B. Darrow from Germantown, Pennsylvania, USA, showed executives at Parker Brothers a game that he had produced the previous year called Monopoly. The Parker Brothers Company wasn’t impressed and initially rejected the game due to over fifty ... more
