Introduction The game monster hunter is one that has been hidden in the shadows of much better games on the platform of the PS2
Storyline You are a wannabe hunter who wants to gain fame and fortune by hunting down some of the biggest and the baddest monster out there in the big world( plus remove the sword in the stone on the back of the garden.
Gameplay Monster hunter is one of the great attempts at getting people to use the ps2 underrated online feature. (Just to confirm I haven’t play the game online, so this review will be heavily discussing the Gameplay of single player) So what happens when you start a new game Well you go straight onto the create a character screen There you get the choice between the various 3 types of hair, face and eye colour and the choice between male and female. Once that has been selected you go into the single player village where your training begins. At first you go to the village elder (the small guy with the annoying humbling noise) and talk to him and he should give you some cash to start off with which you can use to buy some armour/weapons or some spare healing items at the village grocery store. Once you finished spending your pocket money it time to start the training program The training program is basically the one star quest which can be repeated at any time you want and they go thorough eh main ways to get valuable resources and alternate ways of making money.
The main aim of the game is to beat the big bad monsters that not only will give you the respect you want but the money you need
Quests are divided into 5 different levels 1 star quests 2 star quests 3 star quests 4 star quests 5 star quests
There are urgent quest but these are done when you want to move up the ladders of quest levels
Now in regards to the quests themselves these are divided into tow different quests
Green / collection quests. These quests specifically ask you to find or collect certain items of either plants or animals. One of the hardest of these quests is the collect wyvern eggs. This quest asks you to collect a wyvern egg which needs the use of both hands and you’re not allow jumping too high off the ground or it will smash. Now as you gather when you trying to deliver these eggs to the deliverer point you have the problem of every wyvern and monster trying to eat your insides and considering your running speed is decreased while doing this will only add to the problems of this quest
Red/ Hunting quests Now this is where the real fun begins You are required to hunt specific monster and on some levels a certain amount. Now on the 2/3rd star quests you are asked to hunt for a pack of monster say 10 velaloaraprey But mainly on the 4th/5th star quests you are asked to hunt the big bad wyverns themselves but lucky enough you are only asked to hunt 1 of these at a time.
When you have finished the requirements asked of you then you get your rewards
You get the money you sign on for with the contract plus any special items that will be sold off for extra money and also the bonus of materials that you get at the end of t6he levels (these will mainly contain materials that are related to the quest in hand
Onto the good things
Now what is the purpose of receiving these materials you get off the monsters you kill, well you can use these set items to either improve or create your weapons. (Improving weapons is the only real way to get the best from the weapon tree. You can of course sell these materials to a buyer in the village for a certain price in order to buy supplies for you next hunt. The materials can also be used to make various types of armour
What kinds of weapons can you use
Sword and shield This weapon is handy if you’re the person who likes a balance over defence and attack, however a lack in major attack power is what bring this weapon down in use, however a good starter weapon for the beginner
Lance This is sort of a longer version of the sword and shield however what the lance lacks in that small area of speed it makes up for in the better attack power, it does has much longer reach then the sword so this a weapon for the intermediate gamer
Great sword Now if you master the use of this weapon you will find that even the biggest and baddest monster will fall to your knees in no time at all, what it lacks in speed and defence it more then makes for in its sheer attack power., this weapon is recommended for the more experienced players.
Dual blades This weapon is an interesting weapon indeed. While it focus on speed and attack power it leaves you’re almost completely defenceless, but when you’re attacking quicker than ever you have no time for defence, recommended
Crossbow This weapon is mainly used if you prefer to get a jump on enemies and prefer to shoot them rather than wave something at them You need ammo to use this weapon and you can combine different items to produce certain types of ammunition
Whichever weapon you chose to use you must be prepared for the fact that you will need some wits and a lot of healing items Making money Now aside from the major ways of making money there are other side things that you can do to help increase the size of your bank account
Cooking meats
When you carve off materials of herbivore type monster you are likely to get raw meat of them, now providing you have a BBQ spit and are good at the cooking raw meat mini game you should be able to make 10 of these each mission.
Fishing Using certain baits and at certain spots you can go fishing where you can collect various fish which can be used to make certain items or sell them.
Now there are other ways of getting materials and money making items but I’m not going to spoil the game for you now ;P
Bad things about the game Unless you like playing the game to build your character armoury up to the best then this game will probably get very boring fast on the single player and the fact that there are only 30 quests which pretty much all repeat themselves over it is not lacking in original ideas for quests. Also some of the best things and option are only unlock able online and this it makes it a problem so you cannot get the rare and super powerful weapons unless you play the game online
Overall It is a good game to play but you can only really enjoy it if you play it on the multiplayer mode online so be prepared to fork out money to get your PS2 online if you want to get the best of it However it a good game which I have rather enjoy the past
Advantages: Very good graphics, addictive, good use of controller, realistic camera Disadvantages: No online play anymore
The first time i heard about this game was in a PS2 magazine and once i had read the article i couldnt wait until it came out. I always kept an eye out for it. Then when it finally did come out i made sure i bought it there and then. The first thing you need to know it that this is an adventure game, where player create a hunter (character) that will go hunting monsters for whatever reason, wether its for food, for materials to make better equipment ... ...This is a decently long game on 1 player mode as there are lots of quests to complete, you will start of fwith the simple gathering quests and go onto hunting quests, where you will hunt things ranging from small 'kelbi' (like deer) to huge wyverns (liek dragons but not as big). Now in my opinion this is one of the best games ever made! I absolutely love it and i cant wait for the seqeal to come out 'Monstaer Hunter 3'. the only bad thing about this ...

Advantages: OK graphics and nice multiplayer feature Disadvantages: repetative gameplay anoying missions
Monsterhunter freedome is practicly the same as monsterhunter for the ps2. the only difference is a slight change in the order of the missions. this game used to realy entertain me until i got to the second star missions, at this point i was bored stiff seem as though the whole game is anoyingly repetative. kill monsters, mod weapons n armour, kill more stuff, do a lil bit more moddin...........
there are some good points however. there is a wide range of weapons and armour to please all your sharp and sadistic needs..... anyway there are a number of big monsters called wyverns. the first you will need to hunt is the "kutku". quite a difficult task for people like me who prefer modern day gun type action. The name says freedom when realy yoyr not free if there is anoyin loading screens between every section of the map!
