Right out of the box, MTM2 is a lot of fun. But digging in a little deeper, is where the real fun for me began. After a few downloads off the internet, and a little reading, I started making my own trucks and tracks.
I installed MTM2 onto a freshly formatted 1 gig partition of my hard drive, and it took up about 200 megs for the full install with all available options. After about a month of downloading tracks, trucks, editiors, utilities, etc, and unpacking compressed files to edit various things, I was up to about 800 megs in no time. If I didn't have a way to back up some of this stuff, I could fill a dozen hard drives with this stuff easy. (Good ol' tape drives work, but a CD writer is better...)
Truck editing is pretty easy. Basically all you really need is Paint Shop Pro 4 or 5, or Photoshop 4 or 5, a few MTM2 Utilities, and you're off. But with programs like BinEdit by Oliver Pieper, you can build your own truck (and other) models.
With Terminal Reality's TrackEd program, you can create tracks that are completely original. You can use PSP 5 to make new ground textures, BinEdit to make new models, or go to the internet and download all sorts of things to put in your tracks.
Of course, after you make something, there is a lot of fun to be had in testing your creations, both on and offline.
Should this not appeal to you, you can download 1000's of home made tracks and trucks from the internet. Just use a search program and search for Monster Truck Madness 2, or MTM2, and you'll find a ton of stuff to download. Other Keywords that might help you find MTM2 goodies are "Yeastman" for the best tracks made for MTM2, "Oliver Pieper" for BinEdit, "MTM2 Guild" for more utilities, models, and props for tracks, "BEEK" for the best collection of trucks, "KC Vales" for a ton of tracks. Most MTM2 websites will have links to others, so be sure to check them out.
Then aside from all that is the friends you'll make in the MTM2 community. Try the Zone, where you'll meet a lot of mud freaks. You may even like to join a team.
Advantages: Load fun Disadvantages: Short lived, graphics a little blockii, sound, well, annoying!
When I first saw Monster Truck Madness 1 I thought: "Hey, sounds like a good game," before glancing down at the sad of my wallet and gave a little shake of the head. My money is spent on the Microprose Grand Prix series which I believe are fantastic and are the best racing sims around. As I grew a little older (and perhaps wiser), my parents began increasing my pocket money. When I heard of Monster Truck Madness 2 I remembered the "cravings" I had ... ...motorway bridge in an 8-ton monster truck. The features and different modes of play available are incredibly but I cannot help feeling that the graphics let the game down a bit, as does the sound. It is a very playable game and it is the sort of game you play for a week, put down and don't see for another six months. For this reason, I took the game back after a week, not because the game wasn't good, but because it was outstanding. Today, computer ...
