As a woman with something of a hairdresser phobia it is probably unsurprising that I have very long hair in not the best condition. It has currently been a year and counting since my last haircut and my long, thick hair now has a tendency to look a little lacking in gloss and sleekness unless I take very good care of it. When it comes to shampoos, I don't tend to find that shelling out a lot is the best investment in my hair, but I do think a really good conditioner is well worth the money. Having used MOP products in the past and been impressed, I was interested to try their Glisten conditioner as it seemed to have pretty good reviews.
MOP stands for Modern Organic Products, not the 'mop' of hair on your head as I first thought! They claim to use as many natural ingredients in their products as possible, although looking at the ingredient list, this claim doesn't ring quite as true as it might, with lots of chemical names and methylparaben included - most cosmetics companies that claim to be organic these days have taken the step to remove parabens from their products because of perceived (not yet proven) links to cancer and premature aging. However, gripes aside, the key ingredients of this conditioner certainly come under the natural heading - it uses certified organic linseed, pure maple syrup, honey, wheatgrain, and avocado and orange oils.
The Glisten range is intended for chemically treated or damaged hair, or for those who need extra shine to their hair and the ingredients used should certainly help to achieve that. Maple syrup and wheatgrain protect against chemical and environmental damage, while honey and glycerine help the hair to retain moisture, while avocado and orange oils give the hair added shine. Certified organic linseed also works to strengthen the hair, so with regular use this promises masses of benefits to your hair.
The packaging is very minimal - a squat 250ml white bottle with a flip top lid. I find the lid is a little stiff to open but no real complaints from me with the packaging - it's classy, functional, and looks good on the bathroom shelf.
On squeezing the conditioner into my fingers, I was surprised at the texture of it - for a conditioner it is very runny and doesn't feel thick and silky to touch as many conditioners do. The runniness means you have to almost slap it into your hair, rather than working down through from the top as I would normally do. It's very difficult to tell where you have applied the conditioner and where you haven't, because the feel of the hair is no different whether the conditioner has touched it or not! For a fairly high priced product this is actually a big disappointment to use - it doesn't make it easy to detangle my hair and is very difficult to work through the hair because of this. It doesn't feel at all moisturising to the hair and in terms of actually using this, it's only redeeming feature is its lovely subtle orange smell.
However, I reluctantly have to admit that on drying my hair, it did have a little extra added shine and gleam to it and didn't seem in as awful condition as it had felt when wet. In fact, it looked pretty good, being easy to straighten and reasonably shiny, although nothing particularly stunning. However, for a conditioner of this price, I expect more than just a 'good' result - I expect it to be enjoyable to use and to give my hair real gloss and brilliance and this just fell completely flat in those areas.
MOP products can be bought from lots of online beauty stores, and are even available from Boots.com. The Glisten conditioner retails at between £9-11, but in my opinion is really not worth the money in this case.
Advantages: Nice smell, contains certified organic ingredients, ethical company Disadvantages: Didnt do much, not moisturising enough
...natural ingredients, not artificial additions. MOP never test on animals and every product is suitable for pregnant women. Some products, such as those in the Pear range are also particularly good for children.
The Glisten range is aimed at people with chemically treated hair or those who just want their hair to be shinier as it aims to add volume and lots of shine.
The Glisten conditioner as you would imagine is to be used following the shampoo ... ...250ml). It has the same fragrance as the shampoo, like a soft whiff of orange from the orange extract. The conditioner contains certified organic linseed which is rich in protein and to strengthen and avocado oils which protect colour treated hair from UV rays. Honey and jojoba oil work to maximise moisture content. Like the shampoo, it also contains pure maple syrup and wheat protein helping to repair chemical and environmental damage. It lists ...

Advantages: Leaves hair glossy, silky and smooth, fabulous smell, easy to style afterwards Disadvantages: Doesn't enhance highlights
-3 minutes, you simply rinse out and you're done. It rinses out nice and easily despite the thickness and as soon as my hair began to dry I could see the difference this had made to my hair - it was soft and silky to the touch and had a fantastic gloss to it and looked sleek and healthy in a way that my previous conditioner (MOPGlisten) just didn't come close to. I found styling my hair after this was a dream - the comb just glided through it and the hair just fell into place, and the heat of the straighteners didn't manage to dull the shine that the conditioner had given.
As a sufferer of greasy roots and dry ends I find this a great conditioner to tackle this. Normally I don't condition the roots of my hair as it encourages grease, but with this I can get away with running it through the roots no problem, which means I suffer less from frizz ...
I have curly hair, which I wear straight more often than not and am cynical about products which promise to fight the frizz, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one.
My hair is quite long, fine in texture and prone to split ends due to me torturing it straight almost every day. I must have spent a small fortune on shampoo and conditioner over the years but have never managed to find anything I want to buy again and again. However, I must admit that Glistening Creme Conditioner has graced my shower rack several times. It's a great everyday conditioner and does wonders for my tatty mop - leaving it tangle free, shiny and soft. When I use it I also have an easier time blow-drying my hair, leaving it sleeker when I've finished styling. This product is also useful when I leave my hair to dry naturally as it helps form frizz free ...
