And so on to stage 2 of my hair prep of a morning.....! So you've already read about the Mixed Greens wash out conditioner doing a wonderful job on my curls...then I have to nip off and move on to stage 2. MOPs fabulous leave in conditioner is it.
200ml of calming, leave in nourishment for my curls. Again, this is a product making use of organic natural ingredients. This conditioning product is specifically aimed at long hair, curly hair or hair that is stressed/over processed - which makes it ideal for me.
After towel drying my hair, I reach for this soft, flexible tube which handily stands on the flip top cap so no shaking of a bottle to get the last dregs out. When it gets right to the very end, I actually cut open the tube and scoop out what is left in the fixed black cap - which is around a handy two more uses. I squeeze a dollop out - technical term that - and rub it between my hands. A dollop is probably the size of 2 x £2 coins, give or take a few millilitres by the way! How long does a tube last me? Around 4 - 6 weeks depending on how often I wash my hair but I generally wash it every other day. For others with less demanding hair (believe me, mine is demanding) this tube will stretch a lot further.
So, back to the hand rubbing....I work the product into both my palms then finger comb the product through my hair, working from roots to tips. I have a fantastic Matador comb which I then gently use to spread the product further throughout my tresses. As a kind of guide, if I have a little of the conditioner on the comb 'teeth' after I have finished, then I know I have used enough and all my hair is covered. If my comb feels 'dry' then I know I need to apply a little more. But it really is only a bit more - you don't need to go overboard. Some people could leave it there and go on to dry their hair or leave it to dry naturally (as I do) and the results would be gorgeous, soft & shiny hair. I need to apply a smidgen of what will be Step Number 3 - which is the final for me! (For the record, I do believe air drying is best for curly hair. Hair dryers - even with diffusers just give too much volume and take out the moisture curly hair so desperately needs.)
However this product is essential for me - it nourishes my curls and helps them stay long and ringlet-y all day. The fresh fragrance lingers too. I have also noticed my hair shines a lot more these days which I attribute to a combination of the MOP products being used - but this little beauty needs to take a lot of the credit. The price from MOP direct is £9.49 which I am willing to pay as the product is fantastic, but I wish they did a bigger tube so I could get better value for money.
The tube, once empty, is recyclable. You might ask, if the Mixed Green conditioner is so good, why do you need to use a leave-in product? Good question indeed!
Well the truth is, my hair is so thirsty that once a conditioner is washed out, my hair starts to tangle and knot and the frizzes will set in unless the hair is calmed down and nourished pretty much immediately. This is where the leave in conditioner comes in. It also kind of acts as a styling product too in that it helps define my curls. Not everyone with curly hair 'suffers' like I do with mine so they may find that they can do with one or the other of the products I have reviewed today.
However if there is any sign of rebellion in the hair, I would recommend both of these as they may just make your life so much easier in the morning! Those trips to the loo mid morning at work won't reveal your hair has been making a fool of you since you sat down at nine o' clock either. Quite simply, these products used together (and possibly even with my step 3) forces your hair to behave! Thanks for reading - I hope it has helped.
