Home insurance really is one of those things that everyone hates having to pay for..... but of course it's 100% necessary and you don't want to get stuck without it.
This review is suitably timed for me. My grandparents who live in a very old house in Nottinghamshire have just literally just experienced a fire in their out sheds (my Grandad keeps old cars). They are not insured (note, they don't really trust banks either) and are lucky that the fire did not spread to the house itself...... So there goes the old cars and hopefully they'll get some insurance now......
Anyway we signed up for home insurance with MoreThan about two months ago after the Post Office got rid of another one of its services.....
MoreThan was recommended to me by a friend and so far they have been very helpful and accommodating and thus I would like to recommend them to you!!
The main advantage is that they’re cheap. To insure the small three bedroom rented flat in which I live with my partner cost us around £197 annually which includes cover for belongings up to the value of £60,000. Believe me, we don’t have that much stuff but this is there lower limit and frankly for a whole year I think this is a bargain. This policy includes accidental damage to electrical equipment but not to anything like carpets/furniture etc. I was given a quote for full accidental damage cover and I believe it was only £20 or so in addition.
We also looked into insuring my partners mountain bike which is worth a small fortune. I insure this outside the house for one year was an additional £80. Which is a lot of money and thus my partner decided he wasn’t going to bother (his risk).
I sorted the policy out over the phone and made a number of changes, adding the bike to the policy and then removing at again. These changes were handled professionally and politely and I received the relevant information through the post promptly without experiencing any problems. I was never put on hold for long periods and neither did I have to wait along time to speak to someone, which these days is quite a feat I’m sure you’ll agree.
I do just have one little quibble with them which is that on one occasion I was told we could pay by cheque sending two cheques in order to split the cost. After the changes were finalised another employee told me that this wasn’t possible and we could only send it one cheque, explaining that otherwise only one cheque would be cashed leaving an outstanding balance. Quite how this makes any sense at all is beyond me and I presume that this particular employee won’t be earning too many gold stars. Eventually I decided it was best to just to send one cheque although this is more of an annoyance for us as it means a separate trip to the bank……
Clearly I havn’t had to make a claim (and hopefully I won’t have too…) but from past experience this is usually when the problems or maybe I should call them difficulties…. i.e. when the company should be giving you money instead of viceversa. If I ever do have to claim I will update this review!
Generally I have been pleased with the service provided and I think they are worth recommending. I think MoreThan are likely to become more popular pretty fast as they are cheap and they have also recently started a huge advertising campaign. I have seen the bill boards a few times around Newcastle now.

If you’d rather you can leave you details on the website and they will call you back which I always think is a nice touch. You can fill in a form to get a quote online but personally I always think it’s better to speak to a someone who knows the ins and out.
Be careful reviewing insurance companies before you make a claim. They all sound nice when they are taking your money. Wait till you have to make a claim ( hope you never have to) .I would never go near morethan again.

I took out their pet insurance last year, and found their service and policy to be excellent. I was a little concerned as no premiums were taken for about 8 weeks after setting it up, but when I phoned they said they'd given me the first three months free of charge !!! Great review !
