A week ago I took out home insurance with More Than, after I said yes to the quote- the lady asked me if I wanted any other quotes on insurance- I said none are up for renewal yet- she said I'd menioned I have a dog- and did I want a quote on that- it won't do any harm? I said ok- I guess I can cancel with my exsisting insurer. The cover was the same as the cover I currently had- but the have a new service- a 24 hour call centre- to get free pet advice from a qualified vet/nurse. Also the cost was a few £'s cheaper per month, the excess was £70 which is standard on all pet insurance policies- for dogs.
I said- ok, I will take that cover, which is there top of the line one. I cancelled my direct debit with the current insurer...
A week on- no documents had arrived- I called them- and they told me they only send things out for pet insurance on the 2nd of the month. Sure enough- saturday the 3rd October 2009- I got my documents.
Whilst browsing through them- I noticed that the excess is not £70, it is 10% of the total bill from the vet, then £70 on top of that. This would mean- a proceedur costing £3,000 would cost me £370.
Is that good? NO! It is disgusting cover- since I got my lovely dog- 3 years ago, he has only had minor health problems- each one has cost near to £70, then there is the regular injections, de-fleaing, and de-worming.
If you work this out- this is for me in my research- the worst pet insurance on the market. I have cancelled with them- and will be re-instating my old insurance plan. I have asked them to play back the recording of the sales woman- lying to me about the excess- but I am sure- they will either cover up what went on- or somehow avoid the issue.
This insurance is not worth taking out- pets are expensive enough- and that is why we all buy pet insurance, I have been with M&S, churchill, and more than (the latter was 3 years ago-they have clearly changed their cover), and never did I have this type of excess. Also I just tried a quote with petplan- the level of cover was much lower- for £10 extra per month.
Advantages: efficient, friendly, can be managed online, competitive Disadvantages: have to pay first then reclaim money
...(they are one of the more expensive insurers). I had a look through the Yellow Pages and then on the internet to see what the average kind of quote would be. Had been drawn in by their advertising and they did sound genuine.
There was a facility on their website to get a quote based on your dog, ie age, breed etc. the information on the site says that they can't cover certain breeds:-
Dog Argentinos. American Pit Bull Terrier Fila Braxilieros Japanese ... ...With a few more bits of information such as your details, name etc. they generate a quote and this can be saved. This is handy as you can go back and compare at a later date if you wish after having visited other sites. I was happy with the quote I had received and it was a bonus that I got two months free insurance with it. My premium is £10.98 per month. That is for a pedigree Cocker Spaniel male. It suited me that I could pay monthly at no extra ...

...aware that they were probably more susceptable to poor immunities and illnesses, as well as poor behaviour. This proved to be the case with the one dog more than the other. He become quite intolerant of strangers and unfortunately is a liability somewhat. On discovering this over the honeymoon period, I knew it was a necessary thing to find a cover for him in particular, that would suit him and my piece of mind.

Very easy to understand and included what cover is offered, I requested a quote. After a few simple questions, I was awarded with a price. Not the cheapest I was quoted, by the way. However on reading what was included in the cover, I knew this had to be the package for us. In this schedule was;
Vets Fees including alternative medicine ...

...many websites we settled for More Than as this seemed to be the cheapest. I completed an online form and the company contacted me shortly after. The customer service was excellent (although they were trying to sell something so it would be). A few days later we reeceived the paperwork along with a blank claim form. Our cover cost £7.99 a month. Our excess was £70.

They were then advised he needed an operation (although it was optional). My dad phoned More Than who were not at all helpful in advising what he could claim for. They took a chance and had the operation which cost £700, sent the claim form off and received a cheque for the full amount ...

Advantages: Cover for life and quick payouts Disadvantages: Not the cheapest on the market
Pet Plan certainly aren't the cheapest petinsurer, but they are one of the best!
The main bonus that puts them ahead of the rest is their 'cover for life'. This means that each year, following the excess payment (mine is currently £45), the animal is covered for continuing illnesses. Many insurance companies only pay out for the same disease for one year only, or up to a certain amount. If your animal is diagnosed with a long term illness, this can mean disaster with these companies, as you will shortly find yourself paying the bills even though you thought your pet was insured.
Pet Plan insure cats, dogs, horses and rabbits (there may be more that I am not aware of). You get a discount if you insure 3 animals with them. Pedigree animals are more expensive to insurethan crossbreeds and Pet Plan rarely refuse to pay out ...

If you?re interested you can call the quotation helpline on 0800 107 1905 or you can check out their website at http://www.morethan.com which is very easy to navigate around. If you?d rather you can leave you details on the website and they will call you back which I always think is a nice touch. You can fill in a form to get a quote online but personally I always think it?s better to speak to a someone who knows the ins and out.
MoreThan also offer car insurance, petinsurance, life insurance and travel insurance. Catering for your every need! If you want more details check out their website. ...
Advantages: Cover for emergencies or illness which could be very expensive otherwise Disadvantages: Cover only limited to a certain amount and a certain time frame on my policy
incident was tied up nicely. If you were having a planned operation for your pet you could make the arrangements directly between your vet and Direct Line to avoid any unnecessary lay out on your part, except the excess of course.
I would recommend Direct Line for PetInsurance as they have not let us down in terms of policy procedure, efficiency and fulfilment of our needs in terms of Chloe's insurance. We don't have our cat insured anymore but there are further discounts available if you have morethan one petinsured with them.
Prior to having petinsurance one of our cats got run over and the bill was in excess of £400 - a shock to the system to say the least and therefore I do highly recommend having insurance for your animals and Direct Line have proved to me they are well worthy of your custom.
