Advantages: Above average customer service Disadvantages: Online account service leave a lot to be desired, only 0.5% cashback on first £2000
Sure it has a slick advertising campaign and looks quite nice but after that it is fairly average. Essentially this is exactly the same as the Platinum card but will have a lower credit limit. What is marketed as up to ‘1% cashback’ is actually 0.5% on the first £2000 and then 1% on everything on top of that, there are other credit cards that give you the full 1% on everything. Amex Blue and Halifax to name two off the top of my head. Even Egg, who now offer 0.5%, give you payment protection insurance that MSDW Black lacks.

Interest rates and fees mean its designed for people who like to pay their bill in full each month. For those that don’t there are the Blue and Gold versions which offer no cashback but a lower rate. Once the introductory rate of 0% for the first 6 months has gone though there are more attractive rates around.

Online fraud protection comes as standard with most cards as does online accounts servicing. MSDW seem to have overlooked one thing with regards to the latter and that is that you can only view statements online and not recent transactions. I imagine once most people have the statement they don’t really want to go near the Internet (although it does allow you to obtain it during that window when it is in the post). I personally found this a bit of a shag when I was trying to check how much money I had left whilst on holiday.
Applying is fairly straight forward. You can do it online, over the phone or by post. The best option though is to have a chat with and apply though one of the rather raunchy oriental promo girls they seem to litter airports and stations with. Along with the sexual satisfaction you'll also get a free gift.
Customer service is freephone and they seem to have done well here with, in my experience a below average waiting time. I actually filled in a rather lengthy questionaire related to this and thay already seem to have implemented the service according to the results by giving you an initial choice between a person or automated system. However all this really is is an average card that has been marketed very well.
Advantages: Great customer service, fast answering times, 0800 helpline, cashback, use pretty much anywhere, website Disadvantages: Late fee can be a shock (never happened to me thankfully!!)
One thing always puzzled me about this card, why have such an enormous following for one brand name and not use it when breaking into a new market? Having said that, knowing that MSDW were behind the Discover card in the US was enough to raise my interest into the card.
The application process was quick and easy, a couple of forms and a pre paid envelope, and the selection process was pretty speedy as well, I had my card within two weeks of applying, ... ...card, being a Mastercard is available for use in a huge number of stores worldwide, and I have never tried to use it in a store which wouldn't accept it. An added bonus of this is that you will find yourself using it more and more. How is this possibly a bonus I hear you scream. Well the cashback! Each month you receive an updarte on how much cashback you have earned. Even if you only use your card to do the essentials, petrol, groceries, etc, its ...

Advantages: No annual fee. Disadvantages: Just another card, with very little difference.
In the US Morgan Stanley Dean Witter are known for their Discover card, here in the UK they decided to go for the standard Mastercard. They have muscled in on the UK credit card market with excellent and unforgettable advertising campaigns, but after all is said and done, you may as well follow the advice of the TV commercials and grout you tiles or stop a table from wobbling with this card for all the difference it makes. This is the card they give ... ...don’t find out until after it arrives.
MSDW offer competitive introductory interest rates, but very little that make them stand out from the crowd. They have no annual fee, but what’s new, very few credit cards do have an annual fee. They have an average interest rate after the introductory rate has expired. They offer an average credit limit even if you want to balance transfer twice what they are prepared to offer you and like most American issuers ...

Advantages: A freephone support number 24/7 Disadvantages: You'll need to call it a lot
I have had a MSDW credit card for over a year. I have used it successfully once.
When it first came on the market, the MSDW card offered the best cashback deal on credit card purchases around: 0.5% of the first £2000 pa then 1% thereafter. Now Egg and the Amex Blue Card offer 1% cash back on all purchases (although Amex has a 12 pound pa fee).
The first insult came when MSDW set my credit limit at a level which represents only one fifth of what ... ...send in 12 sheets of papers detailing my earnings and savings etc.
The card has then stubbornly refused to work. I have tried to use it at many times in many places. It won't work. The man at my local cinema says the card is too thin and won't go through his machine properly. A sales assistant at Curry's told me that MSDW cards never work.
The ony good thing: an 0800 24/7 support number. But you'll need to call it a lot. ...

Advantages: 0.5% moneyback, no annual fee, free travel insurance and helpline Disadvantages: doesn't offer 1% moneyback on all purchases
Morgan Stanley Dean Witter (a top American investment bank and U.S broker) offer two cards – either a standard and platinum Mastercard. These come with an APR of 16.9% and an introductory rate of 3.9%. One of the main advantages of these cards is the moneyback offered. Moneyback for those unfamiliar with the concept is where you get a small percentage of moneyback at the end of the year based on your total expenditure on the card. In monetary value ... ...Unlike Alliance & Leicester’s card, Morgan Stanley have a very attractive design for both their standard and platinum cards.
With no annual fee, freephone 24hr customer service, free travel insurance, a good looking card and a free travel helpline this has got to be one of the best cards on the market.
See my reviews of Alliance & Leicester, American Express and Egg and for other cards which offer different moneyback schemes and other benefit ...

Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Black Credit Card, not only does it look really cool, but it also offers a low rate of interest and an annual cashback scheme based on your spending levels. I'm looking forward to receiving a nice bonus in December. I already had a Visa when applying so the mastercard was more useful to me as it gave me a choice of which to use and an option if one or the other was not accepted. Another nice touch is being able to get access ... ...I always know where I am with my account and I am now able to plan my spending in line with my available credit.
I would recommend this card to anyone who needs a low interest rate and would like a bit of a reward at the end of the year. I've got about fifty pounds saved in my cashback account now, and there's more to come. ...
