I’m a coffee addict, let’s face it, who isn’t? The majority of the population rely on a coffee first thing in the morning to kick start their day.
At one point I was drinking 5 cups of coffee a day at work and several at home in the evening. It wasn’t until I joined the gym several months back that my trainer told me to cut right back as I drank way too much and so I did. He told me that caffeine holds cellulite in the body and now I only drink a couple of cups a week.
But now, I am finding it incredibly hard to resist coffee as our new coffee maker is fantastic.
The Morphy Richards Caf Rico combination coffee maker is the latest addition to our kitchen. It cost £59.05 from Argos and is a nice graphite and silver colour to match our kitchen. As well as looking good, it makes
filter coffee, cappuccino, espresso and lattés and it also comes with a recipe book for other great tasting coffees that you can make too.
Features – (Filter coffee)
1. The Morphy Richards Caf Rico combination coffee maker, makes 10 cups of filter coffee. The filter coffee section is on the left hand side of the machine and it comes with a large heat resistant glass jug.
2. The filter coffee section has a thermostatic hotplate, which helps keep your coffee lovely and hot and fresh.
3. The filter coffee section comes with a fast brew feature so that you can enjoy 10 cups of coffee in just 8 minutes.
4. There is a strength selector for the filter coffee and it is a good idea to set it to the middle until you know exactly what your coffee will taste like. Then you can adjust it to make your coffee stronger/weaker.
5. It comes with an anti drip device to stop any drips when the jug is removed.
6. The filter coffee section comes with a permanent filter, which is easily removed and very easy to clean. This is a good feature as paper filters put many people off.
7. There is also a water level indicator on the left hand side of the coffee maker so you know exactly how many cups you will get.
(Milk frother)
1. The milk frother is in the centre of the machine and comes with a very nice stainless steel milk frothing jug.
2. The milk frother is an external feature, which makes cleaning much easier compared to coffee makers with milk frothers on the inside.
3. The stainless steel milk jug stands on a hotplate, which heats the milk up so you can froth it.
4. The milk frother operates with a button and the frother detaches for easy cleaning.
(Espresso)
1. The espresso section is on the right hand side of the machine and it makes 6 cups of espresso and it comes with a small heat resistant glass jug.
2. There is a detachable drip tray, which enables easy cleaning.
3. The espresso pan is easy to attach/detach and comes with a permanent stainless steel filter inside, which removes easily for cleaning.
4. Just like the filter coffee section, there is a strength selector on the espresso section so you can make the perfect espresso.
5. The water tank on the espresso section is pressurised for the perfect shot of coffee and it also has a safety pressure valve.
(Other)
1. All of the glass jugs, stainless steel jug and the stainless steel espresso pan, come with rubber grips on the handles for comfort and safety.
2. A measuring spoon is also included with the coffee maker.
3. An easy to understand instruction/care booklet is included.
4. A recipe book with great tasting coffees is included too.
5. Each section of the coffee maker comes with its own on/off switch, so you can use each section individually or all at once.
6. The Morphy Richards Caf Rico combination coffee maker also comes with a manufacturer’s guarantee of 2 years.
The Morphy Richards Caf Rico combination coffee maker was an absolute bargain at £59.05. When you compare it to all other combination coffee makers it beats all of them on price by far. For a combination coffee maker like this, the price range usually starts at £80 and can go much higher.
I bought mine from Argos, which was the cheapest place I have seen it for. Tesco were selling the exact same model for £79.99!!! I don’t know how Tesco get away with charging an extra £20. So if you decide to buy one, I recommend Argos.
I have used all of the features on the machine many times now and every time I get the perfect cup of coffee. I get the same high quality as all of the coffees I have ever had in coffee shops and it certainly beats instant coffee. The thing I really love is the milk frother for making brilliant cappuccinos. I love cappuccinos and have always wanted a cappuccino maker and at last I have one.
There is only one problem I have discovered with the coffee maker. The water reservoir on the filter coffee section is not very accessible. The place to pour your water in is a small hole at the back, where the lid is and the lid gets in the way when you try to fill it as the lid doesn’t fully open. This means I always end up with a drop of water left in the bottom of the jug.
Overall, the Morphy Richards Caf Rico combination coffee maker is excellent value for money and it is a very versatile appliance. It is very nice looking, very easy to clean, very easy to use and I think it has been one of my best buys this year. I definitely recommend this to all you coffee lovers out there with a spare £59.05 in your pocket, (or ask for it as a Christmas gift).
Thank you for reading. Maria.
