Replacing my iron has been on my `To Do` list for some months now and I have only recently got around to doing it.
Years ago an iron was exactly that and the choice was very limited, but technology has taken ironing to another level and we now have to choose between a huge selection Jet stream Generators and state of the art steam irons.
I had to choose an iron that was middle of the road, the prices ranged from £13 up to £69 and I Wanted a durable product that would last me for a few years.
It seemed sensible to choose from within the middle of price range, the Morphy Richards 40730 was priced at £44 on their site, but I bought mine from the Amazon site for just over £34 with free UK delivery and it came with a two year guarantee.

The powerful 2200 watt model is nicely shaped and maybe slightly larger than some models, but it is very lightweight. The majority of the casing is white plastic but the dial and the water tank cover are purple.
The handle is well cushioned so it handles well.
A permanent anti-scale system ensures that the iron wont need constant descaling, there's nothing worse than finding the steam facility is all scaled up.
The ceramic sole-plate has good large steam vents, steam is a must for me because I always have lots of shirts to iron.
Another blessing is the non drip system, my old iron was always leaving puddles sat on my ironing board rest.
The water tank is good sized (320ml) so you aren't constantly refilling it and the iron has a three metre cable, so that allows you plenty of room to stretch from one end of the ironing board to the other without straining the cord.

The iron temperature couldn't be easier to set, the dial has dots on it, you take a look at the dots on the garment label and then match them up. As you get used to the way the iron functions you soon gain enough confidence to control the temperature easily, any housewife will agree with me im sure when I say that you get to `know` your own iron!

I personally wouldnt use the vertical steam for ordinary day to day garments but for chiffon fabrics and other very hard to press fabrics the vertical steam function is excellent.
