After seaching high and low we settled on the Morphy Richards Manhattan Kettle to replace our other Morphy Richards Kettle 43120 Glass Please read the review on the 43120 when i post is as it is a dangerous kettle Anyway back to the new Manhattan
The kettle is finished in a highly polished shiney chrome which actually resists finger prints very well so it stays cleaner. It gives the appearance of being very tall and slim and in the shop it looked a bit odd but when we got it home it fitted in so well. It has a double cool wall and for those who are worrined as it is metal and conducting heat from the water don't. Yes its gets warm but not hot enough to scold if you accidently touch it.
When the kettle is put on to boil there is a funky blue light which lights up the water level indicator on both sides.
One draw back is the water level indicator is difficult to read where the level is as the window is very thin. You get used to the cup indicator rather than the usual litre markers on the level and after a few times of using the kettle you can guage the amont of water needed. Its capacity is 1.5litres or 8 cups and 3 cups is about the same amount as 2 mugs
The push button flip top lid works well but as the kettle is tall about 11.5 " it maybe difficult for some people to fill up like us. Our height of the tap above the base of the kitchen sink is 11" so to fill up the kettle you have to tilt it. The filling hole is small but sufficient but it is a bit fiddily to fill due to its height
The handle is about 7" long and as it gets wider towards the top so it stops your hand from slipping upwards whilst picking it up, A lot of thought has gone into the handle design as it is quite a natural position and is easy to pour It is surprisingly easy to pour even when full probably because the handle is near the top of the kettle making tilting and rotation easyer
The water pours out the spout well with no dribbles
It is a very rapid to boil kettle with a consealed element
There is not a keep warm facility nor a dual boil like some kettles for tea/coffee
Size The base is 6" by 6" coloured black The kettle stands 11.5"high or 13" high when on the base and back of the handle to the spout is about 8"
The kettle will not appeal to every one due to its unconventional design and shape but for those of you like us who want a funky looking kettle and a bit of a design statement/ feature for your kitchen this is the one for you.
We considered all makes and current models in December 2006 before deciding on the Manhattan and we are throughly pleased

Good review but would be handy to add detail of its maximum capacity, whether its noisy in use and whether is heavy to lift or easy to fill straight from a tap.
