I think it has gone up to £29.99 on this site now but that is still saving you £5 on the RRP so it's still a good deal. I also ordered it via the topcashback.co.uk site so I got 95p cash back on it too - bargain!
This is a no frills filter coffee machine; you put the ground coffee in ... ...About 5-10 minutes later you have a pot of fresh coffee, perfect. What makes this machine great instead of just good is the timer. It takes 30 seconds to set and then in the morning you wake up to fresh coffee and the kitchen smelling wonderful! Plus you don't need to worry if like me you are a fan of the snooze button as the machine has a Thermostatic hotplate to keep your coffee hot for you. There are also 2 coloured lights on the machine, a red ... more
I am currently saving to buy a house and so following some advice on the money saving expert (great website highly recommend!) I started making a list of everything I spend. I spent a month dutifully writing down every single penny I spent, which is actually a lot harder than it sounds. At the end of the month I totted up everything and was shocked to see how much money I had spent on coffee at the Costas near my office. £2.95 a large coffee = £14.50 a month = a whopping £58 a month!!!! Plus if I'm honest I can very rarely buy a coffee without a muffin or cake of some kind at £1.40 each that's a further £28 a month. After picking myself up off the floor I decided that something had to change and that Costa coffee was responsible for me being broke and getting a bit podgy :-D (Nothing to do with my lack of self control, honestly).
I have a stove top espresso maker but this is such a pain to clean and takes ages to make the coffee so I knew I wouldn't be bothered to do it every morning and would be back buying coffee in no time. I had a look online for coffee makers that had a built in timer. Most of them seemed quite expensive (£100+) so they were no good as part of my new cheaper lifestyle! I kept looking and eventually found the Morphy Richards 47070 for £27.99 on the empire direct website, with free postage, so I thought I would give it a try. This is a no frills filter coffee machine; you put the ground coffee in the top pour water into it and turn it on. About 5-10 minutes later you have a pot of fresh coffee, perfect. There are also 2 coloured lights on the machine, a red one to show the power is on and a green one to show the automatic time is on. This is quite handy to remind me to turn the timer off on a weekend.
This coffee maker can make up to 12 cups, but if like me there is only one of you it is easy to adjust the amount you make, just put less coffee and water in! The instructions say to use 1 rounded desert spoon of coffee for each cup you want to make but I think it's more a matter of personal taste and it doesn't take long to work out how much you need to use to get your desired strength.
Both the jug and the coffee make have indicators on them to show how many cups worth of water you are using. You can also re-use it after only 3 minutes if you have a lot of people round which is very useful.
There is also a failsafe cut out (turns off after 2 hours) so you don't need to worry about it blowing up your kitchen if you forget about it! Plus it comes with a 1 year parts and labour guarantee.
The coffee machine is very easy to clean as you just need to lift the filter out, empty it then run it under the tap. I also run it with just water once a month to clean out all the pipes. There is also a none drip device and if the jug is not on the hotplate no coffee will come out so it doesn't make a mess.
I couldn't be happier with this coffee maker. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and makes great coffee. Plus it is saving me a fortune. I bought a flask from my local camping store so now all I spend is £4 a month on ground coffee. Also it has a permanent filter so you don't need to buy any.
It is quite an attractive machine in silver (brushed metal effect) and black and it is not too big so it doesn't take up too much work surface and is easy to store if you don't want it out all the time.
I feel to be truly fair I should try and mention some bad points. Erm.... I did spill water everywhere the first time I tried to fill it as it's a fairly narrow gap you pour the water into, but if you're paying attention to what you are doing I don't think you'll have any problems!
The only real downside I can see with this machine is that I now have to be very careful not to drink too much coffee every day!
Advantages: Great value for money machine, works fast and quietly Disadvantages: Poorly designed lid
...street, we came across the Morphy Richards Café Mattino 47070 filter coffee maker. Did it match our requirements? Washable filter? Check Timer? Check Looks good? Check Cheap? Yip, but more of that later DESIGN The machine is made of high quality black and silver plastic, not cheap looking plastic, but a good quality plastic that looks like it will still be looking good after many months of use. The machine itself is quite compact, so it's perfect ... ...instructions are available online at Morphy Richards website. SUMMARY I think this is a very well designed machine, which makes good coffee, and keeps the coffee very warm. The machine looks good, is easy to use and clean and is not overly noisy. Overall, I would give this machine 4.5 stars out of 5, mainly losing half a star because of the poor design of the lid meaning that condensation formed and drips down the back of the machine when the lid ...

Advantages: Cheap to run, neat and tidy, great present! Disadvantages: Could burn you - I suppose
Have you ever had that awful feeling, when you know Christmas/a birthday is just days away and all hopes of buying a present that won't end in the loft/shef/stuffed in the back of a cupboard seem hopeless? I am pleased to say that this little machine was the answer to all my problems 2 days before Christmas 2006 and has continued to outdo itself from the moment my extatic fiance opened it on Christmas Day and at that price it really is value for ... ...have put some buyers off attracted me to this machine more; it doesn't have any fangled stirry, shaky, fizzy bits on it. It's compact and does exactly what it has to; it makes coffee, and if I do say so myself, it does it's job very well.
Perhaps one of the most impressive things about this coffee maker is that it has a timer that allows you to set it so that it can make coffee for you on a morning, and even better than this; it has a hot plate ...

Advantages: Timer, permanent filter, brews nicely. The aroma. Disadvantages: Needs de-scaling too often then what is stated / bad durability
...Also I have many other Morphy Richards products in my kitchen and home so I trusted it.
It worked like a dream for the first few months, must say it made nice coffee and the timer was indeed wonderful and gave a lovely aroma in the house which really perked you up.
The machine itself is quite easy to clean, with a premanent filter which needs just a good wash and rinse before next use.
Bad points though, I have never had to de-scale a coffee machine ... ...maintain just as well as the well establised Morphy Richards one but the cheap one is still going strong.
with every purchase / product there's a risk I may have been unlucky but be careful, I was happy with it for a while, just too high maintanence and hassle. ...

Advantages: Easy to use, compact, hotplate, fast, programme to be ready in morning Disadvantages: None
This is the best bit of kit I have ever brought. It is so easy to use and the best thing is it works for coffee and tea. I am not a big coffee drinker but love my tea. Put in two tea bags and fill jog to level 8 and makes 8 lovely cups of tea and saves on tea bags too! It has a hot plate that keeps the tea hot for about 1 1/2 hours and it makes the coffee or tea really quickly too. Much faster than a kettle and without the hassle of straining tea ... ...(no need to buy extra paper filters or special coffee just normal nescafe or similar is fine, 1 teaspooon per 2 cups) and press one button - easy! The best bit about this machine though has got to be the fact it can be easily programmed to come on in the morning. Love this feature! It has the time on it all the time so you just need to select the time you want it to come on a press programme and thats it - its brilliant. I recommended this machine ...

Why are people saying this machine is so good?? Have they ever owned one?
My problems with it - 1. The filling hole is quite small (i.e. around an inch wide) and therefore it's quite fiddly to fill with water. 2. When the top lid is lifted, lots of condensation falls down the back of the unit and you must remember to leave a cloth there before lifting the lid otherwise a fair amount of water will fall on the work surface.
3. There is no way of ... ...for it to turn off after 2 hours before it can be turned back on again. With our old machine you could press the power button to extend this 2 hour period, but with this one it seems it can only be extended once it's timed period has elapsed. 4. The LCD display is extremely small and looks like something salvaged out of a 1980's digital watch! Designing a filter coffee machine isn't exactly rocket science, so I wonder why the manufacturers really ...
