I would never have thought of purchasing such an item as a bread maker, however after seeing one in action and tasting the end product, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one of them.
The bread maker in question is the Morphy Richards 48220, or if these are not available the newer model is 48260 but both are literally the same machine.
Morphy Richards is a well-trusted brand name, established in 1936, they make a huge range of kitchen appliances, all excellent in price and features.
Now the bread maker itself, this machine requires a fair amount of workspace in your kitchen but it is neat and looks good and is an all in one compact machine.
Inside the case is a baking pan, this MUST be inserted correctly and pushed down till it clicks into place and then the metal paddle blade (not sharp) is pushed into it, if this is not inserted correctly the blade will not turn and you will end up with a baked disaster.
It comes with its own measuring cup which makes baking almost foolproof, plus a spoon for measuring out smaller amounts for the yeast or salt and sugar, the recipe book you get with it is extensive, lots and lots of recipes and so easy to follow and no need to even handle the ingredients for example it might say 2 cups of flour, just fill your cup and hey presto.
So lets bake some bread ==================
To make a basic white loaf all you need is strong white flour, sugar, salt, skimmed milk, a small amount of butter, yeast and water, the step by step instructions tell you the order in which to add these to the baking pan, this is very important as the water (tepid), must go in first, followed by the flour, sugar, salt, milk, fat and lastly the yeast.
Now all the ingredients are in the pan you merely shut the lid and press the number on the machine that corresponds to the size of loaf you have chosen, for this it is number one, merely press it once and off it goes.
You can vary the size of loaves you make from 1lb to 2 ½ 1lb; each has its own number setting for different times that apply.
The machine once started displays the cooking time left and begins to bake your bread, it goes through various stages of kneading, resting, and finally baking, the clear panel on the lid allows you to watch what’s going on inside and it is safe to open the lid during the kneading cycle but not after that or you will have flat bread!
It does however take a fair amount of time to bake your bread, but bear in mind you have not had to actually touch any of the ingredients or need to do anything once its started, just sit back and wait or pop out and do your shopping even.
These are for the smaller loaf so the times increase for larger amounts.
Once the time is up, the machine beeps to tell you, by this time your house is filled with the aroma of freshly baked bread and you cannot wait to try it! You can remove the loaf there and then or if you do not open it the machine will keep your bread warm for you instead.Another excellent feature is the facility to pre set the machine to start at a certain time, so here you can pop all the ingredients in before you go to bed and wake up to hot delicious freshly baked bread….
Removal is a slightly tricky procedure, you need to pull the pan out and sometimes it can stick, and then hopefully the loaf will come out easily as its non stick, however I found often the blade gets stuck in the loaf, so you need to carefully prize it out of your bread!
Impressed? Well there’s actually much much more your bread maker can do than just plain old loaves, there are numerous recipes in the book for allsorts of breads from olive, sun dried tomato, peanut butter, banana, cheese and onion, herb to even chocolate bread for the chocoholics amongst you.
But why stop at bread, this machine can also make your cakes for you, again no fuss no mixing, everything in the pan and that’s it, the cakes do come out quite a firm texture and are square but they taste great and you can add anything you want to these really, choc chips, and even dried fruit. Baking time for a cake is 1 hour 50 minutes.
Or maybe you would like some homemade jam? This takes a mere 1-hour to make and I can say is delicious.
As well as these you can use the machine to prepare dough for pizza or croissants and more, but of course with these it only makes the dough, the finishing and baking is then completed by you and baked in a conventional oven.
This bread maker comes with a 2 year guarantee, and is 33cm in height, 27cm in width and 21 cm in depth, its white with a clear view window and has digital settings on the top right, it is so simple to use, you will be amazed at the results, these are perfect every time providing you follow the instructions carefully and measurements you cannot go wrong. The bread keeps well also and is ideal to slice and toast after a couple of days.
I suggest you ask Father Christmas for one this year, you really will love it.
These vary in price but at the moment comet have them for £45, so a bargain.
The Morphy Richards Essentials Bread Maker, (48220)
If you want to make the perfect loaf then choose this bread maker from Morphy Richards. The bread maker is a neat compact unit that can be either left on display on the kitchen work surface, or stored away in a cupboard. The bread maker cost me £50 from Argos at the time of purchase.
The main body of the bread maker is housed with a white metal casing. The top of the bread maker is made out ... ...on the top which has a small window in the middle so that you can see inside the bread maker whilst it is operating. The controls for the bread maker are situated on the top right next to the lid. The internal compartment for the bread maker houses a small baking pan that holds all the ingredients for the bread. The baking pan is coated in a non stick paint on it’s internal surface. The baking pan locks into place inside the bread maker. By ...

...the proud owner of a Morphy Richards 48220 breadmaker for almost a year now. I received it as a birthday present, but believe it was priced at £49.99 and was purchased at Argos. Unfortunately it doesn't appear in the current Argos catalogue, however its functions are very similar to those of many other Morphy Richards (and other make) breadmakers available therefore I should hope this opinion will still be of use to you!

...had been substituted for a Morphy Richards Essentials model which was identical in all but name. Apparently, they came from the same factory and had a different name printed on them. Would I be happy to accept the Morphy Richards model instead? Of course. So here goes with my experiences of the Morphy ... ...I had been under the misapprehension that I just needed to throw in some cheap flour (the 11p a bag economy stuff - such was my naivety), together with water and yeast, and out would pop a mouthwatering crusty loaf which had cost me tuppence to make. This was my first mistake. I had been unaware of the cost of ingredients you need for these breadmakers. For a start, the Tesco Value flour is a big no-no - you actually need to buy strong bread flour, ...

...of the cheaper models, a Morphy Richards; it had various bread settings and promised you could even make jam and cakes with it too, all for just £49. Other makes that promised the same were considerably more expensive. Happily, I bundled it and husband (with bemused expression and clutching severely depleted wallet!) into the car and we returned home so I could play with my new toy!
It's a classy looking machine, glossy white with a grey touch control ... ...my way across to the Morphy Richards…Brilliant invention, so easy even I could do it. And I did do it, while she laboured over a large black portion. Galaxy, you understand. I quoted the Bible again: 'Go thy way , eat thy bread with joy.' The ingredients go in first, as per the list in each recipe. Generally, water first, then the rest. Yeast last, and don't get it mixed with the other stuff, or it goes off. Then press a button or two (your ...
