Design ************** The bread maker is a brushed stainless steel design and it feels fairly sturdy and is a nice looking piece of equipment. The top of the machine houses the lid which has a large built in viewing window so you can see clearly how the bread is doing. There is also a fruit and nut dispenser which allows you to add fruit and nuts to the dough whilst it is cooking without having to take the dough out and risk burning your hands. To the left of the lid is the control panel which
has a led display and directly below the led display are the setting buttons. There is the timer which apart from pasta and fast bake, allows you to delay the cooking of the bread. This means you can set it to start cooking a couple of hours before you wake up and wake up to nice fresh baked bread for breakfast. Below that there is the menu button that allows you to select one of 11 preset bread baking settings; there is even one for jam. The colour button allows you to set the colour of crust, giving you the choice of light, medium and dark crust. The Loaf button sets the size of the loaf you are cooking and you can choose small loaf (1.5lbs) or large (2lbs). There are air vents on the side of the bread maker so you need to make sure you do not cover those up. The on off switch is at the back of the machine which at first I thought was a bit odd, but it does make sense as it will be very hard to accidently switch it off during cooking.
The Manual ************** The instruction manual is written in a clear and easy to understand way. It begins with the usual safety warnings and then moves on to what to do before using it for the first time. It gives a diagram showing all the controls and what they do and even has a diagram of the dough bucket, just in case you did not recognise it. There is a detailed list of what timings each type of bread will take to cook. Then moving on to a simple 16 step guide to baking your first loaf of bread and it really does make this very easy to use. The next page is all about how and when to use the nut and fruit dispenser and also covers using the timer setting and even includes what happens and what to do if there is a interruption in the power during cooking. It also explains the best way to clean the bread maker and about storing it until next time. The section on the ingredients of your bread even explains what effects it will have on the bread by using different flower. The recipe section is 6 pages long and not only gives recipes for different breads but also jams as well.
My Views. *************** The bread makers is very easy to use and make the process of making your own bread almost foolproof. You can smell the bread cooking filling your kitchen with a lovely aroma that had me drooling before it was even ready. The bread tastes fantastic and we ate the first loaf whilst it was still hot. What makes this bread maker so good is suddenly, it is so easy to make our own jams and marmalades as well. There is something unique about making your own bread and then spreading your own home made jam or marmalade on it. Some loaves do take up to 4 hours or more to bake but if you set the timer you can get them baking away when you are out shopping or even still asleep. The fast bake setting is fairly quick though and takes about 1 hour 12 minutes to bake a loaf. I find the viewing hole in the lid very handy as it lets you see whats happening and at times is almost as good fun as watching the TV. As long as you do not over fill the dough bucket with dough or jam and make sure you clean it straight after use, it is very easy to clean and keep clean. The outside of the bread maker just needs a wipe over with a warm damp cloth and detergent. I must admit I am still unsure about the power button being at the rear of the bread maker. I think for ease of use it could have easily been fitted next to the other setting buttons on the top of the machine. The unique thing about this machine is that the dough bucket even has a paddle in it so it can be used to mix your dough for you. I think they have almost thought of everything In this machine. The only thing I was disappointed about, was that if you set the colour button to give you a dark crust it tends to come out a bit too crunchy and leaves a burnt toast taste in your mouth. Other than that this is an almost all dancing and singing appliance. Now if only they could bring one out that not only bakes the bread and makes the jam, but also makes the coffee as well ..
