I have had some comments left that this is in the wrong place, i did check slow cookers but there was nothing there sorryxxxxxx
THE REVIEWXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Ibought this applience after a friend was raving about it. I liked the idea of being able to leave the meal to cook all day without leaving it in the oven. I don't like leaving the oven on when i'm out all day.
So i bought this model. It is very basic and i do wish i had researched it more.
It is nice and heavy but it does look like something from the seventies!! Its brown and cream with a simple dial on the front with the settings on it. You have high, medium or low also the off switch. The dish is nice and heavy and does come out of the main heat unit which makes it easier to serve the food and to clean it. The dish also does hold a lot, 5 litres which is ample to cook for a family of four.
It comes with the usual instruction booklet which is very easy to understand and quite detailed also a 5 year guarentee which is very good compared to most products which only have a 2 year.
It is also very thorough about the safety aspects. Most of them are common sense with products that get very hot but also it tells you not to take the lid off while cooking which i find a bit hard as i feel i do need to check on the food and give it a stir from time to time, you can't see through the heavy brown lid.
It also comes with a very good recipe book with lots of recipes i thought this applience would only be good for casseroles, how wrong i was!!
You can cook curries, soups, chilli, bolognese and puddings, like rice pudding & bread and butter pudding.
I have cooked all these recipes and must say i was very impressed especially the soups and casseroles. Sausage casseroles are my kids favourite.
You do have to be organised to cook in this way, to start you have to use fresh food, any frozen food needs to be defrosted first, Also the meat should be browned first in the oven , all the liquids you add should also be hot. So you can't just pop it in and run. I do think it should of had a timer added ,because of this i just set the dial to low and then turn it up when i get home if needs be.I must admit it is a seasonal applience and i do use it a lot in the winter and it has got me experimenting with different recipes also it may be a bit of work to start with but you only have to dish it up when finished and eat it you haven't got lots of different pots and pans to wash up!!
I am happy with my slow cooker but i do wish i had bought a more up to date one.
